Author: duncan8151 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7224.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You need to be far more specific as to who you are looking for. Who was the earliest Williams ancestor that you know about. What was their full name, about when were they born, married, and/or died?. Possible spouse? Possible children? If you know they moved in or out of the county at some time, when? The name Williams is rather common, and since Loudoun County has been around since 1757 it would be impossible to help you without more information that you already know. If you would like to have some references checked regarding Loudoun County, please email me directly with more complete information about the people you seek. He married the widow, Margaret FORSTER/FOSTER BARNES ca.1784 in Berkeley Co., Virginia (if our information is correct). We have found a John E. STEVENS/STEPHENS m.Susannah LEIGH that looks like a good possibility. We feel Henry STEVENS had a brother named Thomas and a sister named Margaret b.1754 who married John POLAND around 1772. Hope someone can give us a clue or two to prove this connection. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Use the same kind of search words like you do on the message boards but don't be locked into them. Try things like Virginia or Pittsylvania VA or Revolutionary War or VA marriages or Cooper Family or census or 1860 CD or VA names (lots of sellers put the word "names" in their ad) Good luck!! Author: TulaniG Surnames: BECKS, GOLDEN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7221/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I recently took a trip to Brown's Cove, VA in N. Western Albemarle Co. (RT 810, 15 miles from Charlottesville, VA) to see the area where my g.g. grandfather Lee Becks was born. His parents were Humphrey Becks and Mary Golden. Lee was born in 1862. He married Dora Ann Holmes. In Madison, VA, they had Sid, Jones "Junie", Savoy, Beulah (Bullock), Annie Betty (Strother), Mary Lee, Sam, and Sadie Nora (Fry). They lived in the Wolftown/Shelby area of Madison and were members of Rock Hall (Rock Hill) Baptist Church. I was also wondering about the Black community there in Brown's Cove once upon a time. I visited Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, founded in 1879 and am wondering how I might find records there to see if the Becks' were members. I'd like some more info about Brown's Cove, any plantations or sizable farms in the area? And any information on the Becks and Golden families of Albemarle, Greene, and Rockingham that may be related to me. It was a great trip waaaay up in the mountains. We took my 92 year old G. Aunt there who wanted to see where her grandfather's people were from. Any information will be appreciated! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [VIRGINIA] Fw: message board: KY TAX PAYERS 1789-1792
    2. Julie
    3. some one showed me this great message board - so I am sharing it with you :-)     TIP #700 – KY TAX PAYERS 1789-1792 – McOMES through MOORE http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.tips/720/mb.ashx   Kentucky did not become a state until 1792. However, there were many people living here and paying taxes! The first enumeration of the residents in which was going to become the Commonwealth of Kentucky was called “An Act Providing for the Enumeration of the inhabitants of the United States approved March 1, 1790. The census commenced on the first Monday in August, 1790 when Kentucky was classed as a separate district. The United States Marshall for the District of Kentucky was paid $250 for taking the census. The census was to be completed within nine calendar months after August 1790 so actually the census enumeration actually commenced after Kentucky’s separation from Virginia. The census was completed and returned to Washington to be filed with the State Department. When the British burned the Capitol in the War of 1812, the census for Kentucky was destroyed. Thus the 1790 census for Kentucky was created using tax lists. There will be found duplication of names at times, and names spelled various ways. The name will be shown, county, and the year the information was taken from. I regret having to run the names consecutively, but there are many and to list them in single columns would take forever! This list, when added to the petitions to the VA assembly that I posted several weeks ago, will give the reader a good idea of those of our ancestors living on KY soil pre-Kentucky statehood.

    2. Julie
    3. I thought this article was interesting.  I'm not sure if any CAGOT's made it over here, but I would assume so, :-)   http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/the-last-untouchable-in-europe-878705.html   The only living Cagot traces the roots of her pariah people, who endured centuries of brutal prejudice for reasons no one can even remember   ..She is probably the only person in the world willing to admit she is of Cagot blood. But it took her many years to realise what that meant. "When I first had children, I wanted to know where they came from – which means where I came from. And so I started researching, I traced my family tree back through the generations – through many villages and towns in the Pyrenees.  ...
