Hi list, for those with English ancestry, the Yesterdays site has been updated with hundreds of records of Law and Order. It has some really awful details among the records. Check Spondon and Hartington for a couple of examples. Hathersage Law and Order shows how the Constables of each parish detailed the names of those who did not attend the parish church. Hope Law and Order also lists a "slaying" in the parish. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm

Would anyone on this list know how I can go about finding a copy of the Virginia Genealogist Volume 31? I don't know the year, but was probably in 1986 or 1987. I recently went through an index for the Virginia Genealogist and found my ancestors name for Volume 31 Pages 158, 141. However, the library did not have the Volume named. I would like to find out what this Volume contained about my ancestors. I would like to find out how to go about purchasing this volume or if anyone on this list might just have this Volume and would do a look-up? Judy Sanders

He was a pretty odd fellow I must say. Not that he was mean or offensive in anyway, but he was waring a ring, like that of a Mason that had a horse shoe on it with no explanation. His banner was also trademarked with two horseshoes. When he came around to the tables we asked him the significants and he stated that the horseshoes where a representation of his family name 'Geddes'(/Ge-tt-ies/). Thats all he would give us. He changed the conversation topic at that point. Does anyone know anything about this name? And what does the horseshoe mean? I have been able to only trace my ancestry in the Ligon/Liggon back to Paul Liggon/Liggan (1795-1853) who married Delila Cawthorn and lived in Henrico Co., VA. As you probably know the Ligon surname has been spelled in many different ways such as Ligon, Liggon, Liggan, Liggin, Legin and so forth. No I do not have Volume III of the Ligon Family and Connections Book. I have heard that there is one but I do not know of anyone who has seen or who has such a book. Also I have heard that Volume III is nothing more than minutes of a Ligon Family Reunion. There is a Ligon Family and Kinsmen Association located in Memphis, TN but I do not think that it is very active.
