    1. [VIRGINIA] Daniel NUNNELEE born 1814 VA - lived and died in Hart Co KY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Kathye_Upham Surnames: NUNNELEE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7264/mb.ashx Message Board Post: How do I know his last name was N-U-N-N-E-L-E-E ??? The American ancestors of all persons in the USA whose last name was spelled exactly NUNNELEE where born as NUNNALLY and in Virginia. Towards the end of the Revolutionary War a small handful of Nunnally cousins deliberately changed their spelling to N-u-n-n-e-l-e-e However, very few of their siblings changed to the new spelling making it a dead give away to the ancestors of each and every Nunnelee and each descendant knew the importance of the spelling and were adamant about it whenever asked. So ! Whenever someone is found in a record with that exact spelling it was not by "chance" !!! This Daniel NUNNELEE's name was written N-u-n-n-e-l-e-e on the 1840 Hart Co KY census and as Nunalee on the 1850 Hart Co KY census. His widow Elizabeth's name was spelled N-u-n-n-e-l-e-e on the 1870 and 1880 Hart Co KY censuses. THERE IS JUST NO QUESTION - it is NUNNELEE !!! 1840 Hart Co KY indexed NIMULEE but written Nunnelee ! I don't know Daniel's wife's maiden name or who any of his 3 children married - but I will keep digging and digging. My gut instinct and 31 years of researching our surname makes me pretty certain that Daniel was from the Halifax Co VA area .Having named his 2nd son Armstead could be a clue that he is closely related to Revolutionary War soldier, Edward Nunnelee whose son Daniel married Mary Ann [Amistead] or to Harbard who named sons Daniel and Armistead.......... Lots of digging and record finding to try and unearth ----- who any one of his 3 children married would be such a treasure !!! Can you help ??? Author: nakeys Surnames: Johnson, Stevenson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7262/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am seeking any information about Cleo Johnson. She was born in abt 1918. Her mother (my grandfather can't remember her name) was born abt 1900 and died abt 1960 in DC but was buried in Suffolk, VA. So we think that since it was important enough to bury her in Suffolk that that may be where Cleo and her mother were from. We are not 100% sure about that theory. What we do know about Cleo. She was married (i think)to John Stevenson of NC. They had atleast 3 kids together- Shirley, Patricia and John. I know that she also either married or just had kids by a gentleman last name Dixon and that she was living in the Charlestown, WV area when she died. People have speculated that she may be mixed with Indian however Im not sure if that was ever confirmed. Any help about her family or just her in general would be greatly appreciated. 1. [VIRGINIA] Request for two obituary look-ups, from 1968 and 1971. Also, related VA marriage date / location question. Can anyone help?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: DavidWilsonUSPL Surnames: Lewandowski Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7260/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Might anyone be able to locate and send me the obituaries for one of my maternal uncles and his wife? My uncle was EDWARD JOSEPH LEWANDOWSKI, born 7 March 1924 (in Baltimore, MD), DIED 2 June 1968. I know that he died in the Veterans Administration Hospital, in Hampton. His much older wife was VIRGINIA LEWANDOWSKI, born 23 October 1893, DIED 17 October 1971. They're both buried in Hampton National Cemetery, in Hampton City, VA. I don't know where, precisely, Eddie and Virginia had official residency set up at the times of their deaths, but do know it was in Virginia (and believe it was somewhere relatively near the hospital). Hopefully obituaries for each of them will appear in a Hampton City newspaper. If not, might there perhaps be VA state-wide or county (or regional) newspapers that could be checked? I have no idea what Virginia's maiden name was, or if she'd been previously wed and had children from a prior marriage. (I got her dates info from a Find A Grave memorial, and don't know anything at all more about her.) She and my uncle never had children together. My understanding is that they married sometime within the ten or so years prior to Eddie's death. Anyone who's able to help with their obituary look-ups, I will be most grateful. Please e-mail me directly at Genplant29@aol.com, and put something like "LEWANDOWSKI obituaries" in the Subject line of your message, so I'll know it isn't spam. Thanks! Best regards, Dave Wilson PS: By any chance does anyone have any suggestions on how I might locate Eddie and Virginia's marriage record? I have no clue as to a year or location, but am confident they wed somewhere in Virginia. If my mother's belief is accurate, Eddie and Virginia met while he was for years going to the V.A. Hospital for ongoing medical care. (Eddie was long in ill health, with a bad heart, etc.) My guess is that they wed somewhere in that part of the state, if not actually in Hampton. My mother doesn't think they were married for any longer than maybe 13 or so years tops (though she really doesn't know). It very well may have been far fewer years than that. 1. [VIRGINIA] My Owens Line
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WaFaO68 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.unknown/7258/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I only recently learned that a Richard Owens came to Maryland from Virginia in 1648/49 along with a group of other men. they had been "banished" from virginia becasue they were "Non-conformists". I gathered this information from "Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard counties" by J.D. Warfield 1904/5 (?) I came across this book on line, I had only heard of it before. As I am related to the Warfield's through my mother's Welsh's line. John Welsh I arrived here in Maryland around the same time as Richard. (Though not together....John arrived with money in his pocket..at least that is the family theory :) ) I have been searching out my father's line...Owens for some time and they just didn't leave a big 'foot print' at all. but something that I read in "Founders" struck a true nerve...."Non - conformists" Now that sounds like every Owens realative I have. they are stubborn as all get out! Although according to what I have read in "Founders", they were most likely Quakers (and during the 1640's - the Quakers did not have a good reputation) but at any rate I think that Richard was indeed a Quaker and he didn't want the government to tell him how to think or how to worship! I know that the Owens' in Maryland eventually divided into three distinct family lines. Owen (no 's') they settled in the Southern part of Maryland, the Owings (they completly changed their spelling)..They settled north of Baltimore City and Owings mill is named after them. And then you have my line. They seemed to settle in Central Maryland around Annapolis Junction and westward. All three lines start with a Richard. The Richard that left Virginia was married to a Rachel. I can find mention of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. But as they are not mentioned in the same paragraph but in a disjointed way, I am not certain that they are talking about the same person or people. I can trace my line backwards from me to the 1750's My name is Wanda Fay (Owens) Schneider, my father is Carl william Owens, of Franklin Benjamin Owens, of Benjamin Franklin Owens, of Samuel Owens, of Benjamin, of Benjaimin. And that is where the stone wall is and I can't seem to get beyond it. I was hoping that Founders would give mention for who married whom and had what, but Richard is only mention a few times so far. I think that the book is less than 500 pages and I have read at least 355 pages. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The next clues to Ellen's parents comes years later when on an Orange County, IN application for a marriage license in 1911 (age 66), Ellen indicates (as transcribed) that her father's name was Augustine (Ead (e) s assumed) and her mother's maiden name was HENDERSON. I have used this information in searches for many years to no avail. The sister's name Augusta gave some credence to the father's name, which I have also searched as Augustus to no avail. Recently, I was able to trace Ellen's brother Caswell to his death and certificate in Campbell Co. KY in 1917. This certificate showed the father's name as W. C. (Ead (e) s assumed). William Caswell perhaps? Again this new lead has not firmed up an Eads family to pursue. The names Caswell, Augusta, and the less unique William are perpetuated in later generations. There are a couple Eads families in VA/KY with a Peter being the most prominent but I cannot twist or permute any clues I've found to date to align with the information I find. Are there any definitive published works on Virginia and Kentucky Ead (e) s families? Facts, hints, clues and suggestions are welcome.
