    1. [VIRGINIA] "First Date"
    2. Nancy Crenshaw
    3. Subject: First Date This just tells you how hard it is to be single nowadays... This was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Jay went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The winner described her worst first date experience. There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize! Marilyn said it was midwinter... snowing and quite cold... and the guy had taken her skiing to Lake Arrowhead. It was a day trip (no overnight). No, not Marilyn. They were strangers, after all, and truly had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they were headed home late that afternoon. They were driving back down the mountain when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte. They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which she did for a while. Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point where she told him that he had better stop and let her pee beside the road, or it would be the front seat of his car. They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants down and started. Unfortunately, in the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peeking. All she could think about was the relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation. Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation. As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to pump handles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem due to the extreme cold. Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humor she answered her date's concerns about "what was taking so long" with a reply that indeed, she was "freezing her butt off and needed some assistance"! He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma. Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a real problem. Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free so, as she looked the other way, her first time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender. As for the Tonight Show... she took the prize hands down... or perhaps that should be "pants down." And you thought your first date was embarrassing. This gives a whole new meaning to being "pissed off."

    1. [VIRGINIA] Fw: 18th Century tobacco merchants
    2. Malcolm Speirs
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Malcolm Speirs To: Sent: Sunday, December 29, 2002 12:52 PM Subject: 18th Century tobacco merchants I hope some kind soul can help me with my research.... My ancestor, Alexander Speirs (born 1714 in Edinburgh, died 1782 in Glasgow) was a prominent tobacco merchant who went out to Virginia as a young man and set up a tobacco plantation there, before returning to Glasgow in the late 1740s to run his import business. Whilst out in Virginia, he met and married Sarah Carey in Jamestown on 15th Nov 1746 (she died in 1752 in Glasgow and he then married Mary Buchanan). When Alexander left Virginia, his younger brother James was left in charge of the plantation. I believe that James married Judith Bell, but am not positive on that point. I have carried out quite a lot of research on Alexander Speirs at Glasgow City Archives, which holds the old family papers from the time he re-settled in Glasgow, but have virtually no information on his time out in Virginia. Can anyone please point me to where I can get information on the location of the plantation(s), whereabouts they lived, and any business Alexander Speirs may have set up whilst in Virginia. I would be most grateful for any help. Thanks, Malcolm Speirs from Isleham, near Cambridge, England.

    1. [VIRGINIA] Local Genealogy Coordinators
    2. Bobby Talbert
    3. We are seeking a volunteer genealogy coordinator for Hampton City, Harrisonburg City, Hopewell City, Lexington City, South Boston City, Staunton City, Suffolk City, Waynesboro City, Williamsburg City, or Winchester City. This a great way to be involved from your home and is not time consuming yet very fulfilling---please click on the link below to check out the state site--once there--click on county or city selections--if you see a county or city you would be willing to serve, feel free to click the "ADOPT ME" button--fill in the info--and I will process it immediately--thanks for your time and consideration. With the computer age upon us, almost everything seems like it can be done from home. I do not know if you have had a chance to click on the link below. If not, I hope that you will and then click on the county links. It will show you all available locations that need adopting simply by looking on the right side column. If you see "Adopt Me" then it is available. It is very easy to work from home on almost any site. Many papers are on-line now and have obituaries that can be put on your site. That is a gold mine of info!!!! Also, just pulling out a local phone book, high school annuals, and county sites on the web are all great sources. As a county volunteer, you would be given a special password to access the "Administrators " panel to make any necessary corrections, deletions, and additions that you feel necessary. Only 4 people in the entire country would have that access: the county coordinator, the state coordinator, the National Director & Assistant Director! . Many people may stop and add info on the site but they do not have capabilities to make changes. Simply adding 1 entry a day is a workable goal so you can see it does not demand untold hours and can be maintained without tons of extra effort. As you already know, this opportunity is fun and fulfilling. I even stumbled into pieces of my own family history by helping others in the project. Thanks for considering this opportunity and hope that I will receive your "Adopt Me" form soon. I am able, willing, and eager to help you through the procedures. Thanks for making a difference.. 1. [VIRGINIA] Naomi Ruth Bown/1990/CA to VA
    2. Joe & Stephanie Grohol
    3. Hi... I was wondering if someone in the Virginia area could do a lookup for me in Rappohannack, VA or Richmond, VA. I am looking for an obit or maybe a lookup for Naomi Ruth Bowen who actually died in Riverside, CA but her interment was in Rappohannack, VA. There was no obit in Riverside so I was wondering if someone could do a lookup or something to help me. I tried the library already and for a fee they could do it. But I am hoping someone who lives in that area could help me. Also if somone could do a lookup at the cemetery that she was buried at: she was buried at the Rappohannack Baptist Church Cemetery, Rappohannack, VA. I have her death record/certificate...one of the people in Riverside who does the CA Death index found it for me. Naomi died 09 May 1990. She was married to William Tyler Bowen. I am hoping someone could help me...I may have asked before, not sure....but any help is appreciated... Stephanie Grohol

URL: http://www.rays-place.com/other/bonaventure-1635.htm This ship list a lot more passingers than the Plaine Joan did, but the page for the Plaine Joan has a better explination of why they are believed to have gone to VA before New England.
