    2. Robert M Brady
    3. Nope. Wrong Glenn, but I did get in touch with them yesterday evening. One of the other board members went to school with Glenn. And it was a worthwhile effort as I found out that my grandparents had left an oil painting in the attic of the house. My grandfather loved to paint. Thanks and godspeed to you and yours. I'll put this as post on the boards to thank everyone for their help. Robert Missin them hills n hollars....... ----- Original Message ----- From: Sellers.Michael To: Robert M Brady Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2003 8:40 AM Subject: RE: [VAROCKIN] Looking For - Glenn & Kathy DOVE = Singers Glen, VA Robert, I doubt I'm going to be of much help but thought I would respond anyways. If the Glenn and Kathy Dove are who I think they are, I went to school with their daughter, Jeanne. It is my understanding that Glenn Dove passed away several years ago, perhaps at least 6 or 7 years ago. If the Glenn Dove I'm thinking of is the one you are looking for, he was a Game Warden for the county for quite a long time .... Michael Sellers -----Original Message----- From: Robert M Brady [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 03:25 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [VAROCKIN] Looking For - Glenn & Kathy DOVE = Singers Glen, VA I am trying to get in touch with Glenn & Kathy DOVE residing in Singers Glen. In 1989, they purchased my late grandparents' house and property there. The house is a historical landmark as it was the first schoolhouse built in Singers Glen (1882), later converted into a home and additions were added. It originally used to be located next to the church (now known as Donovan Memorial UMC). My grandparents purchased it from the church and had it moved to the other side of the hill, a short walking distance away from the original location. When I lived there back in the early 70's, during my teenage years, I had hidden a dated letter in the house during some remodeling that was done. Does anyone have any contact info? Their phone number is not updated. Here is a link to the picture of the house as it used to look when I lived there: http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~bradytrilogy/memories/images/bibliography/singers-glen/singers-glen-school.htm The house is now lathed in white sideboards. 1. [VIRGINIA] Revolutionary War Vet [ William Cannon] Finally Gets Tombstone
    2. Earline Wasser
    3. ST. PAUL - The only Revolutionary War veteran buried in Oregon finally got his government issue tombstone. Saturday at St. Paul's Old Cemetery, [Oregon] a color guard and a priest gave Willaim Cannon a proper sendoff - a black powder gun salute, a benediction and blessing, followed a taped recording of taps. Cannon. who died in 1854 at age 99, had to wait 150 years because he didn't have the proper papers required by the Veterans Administration. Cannon's burial site and war service were authenticated in 1991 after years of research, then a former St. Paul mayor and the Sons of the American Revolution worked for 12 years to get the tombstone. Genealogist Keith Miller of Beaverton (Oregon), a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, said Cannon was born in 1755 in Virginia. He was a private in the 4th Regiment of Artillery, Pennsylvania regiment, Continental Line, fighting in the battles of Cowpens and King's Mountain. Cannon headed west to Oregon in 1811 with the expedition of the John Jacob Astor Fur Company. Later, he was one of the 52 men who voted for a provisional government at a meeting at Champoeg (Oregon) on May 2, 1843. Miller says Cannon's descendants are lost. Records show him listed as the widower of a Chinook woman, Polly Clackamas (the Clackamas tribe was part of the Chinook nation, and women often took the last name of the tribe they came from). Records show they had a son, John, who was baptized and may have been raised in the Clackamas tribe. The ceremony Saturday drew about 50 people to the north Marion County town, some from as far away as Texas. Many said it honored not just Cannon, but all veterans. The event also served as a tribute to the former mayor, Joe McKay. Besides trying to get the tombstone, the mayor, who died three years ago, used to put out temporary markers for Cannon.
