I am looking for information on Lewis Bean. He was born in Marland. His parents supposedly emigrated from Holland. Lewis married Hannah Sheetz in 1852 in the Shenandoah county of Virginia. Their first born, George M.Bean is the lineage I am seeking. George had a romantic interlude with Catharine Weaver which resulted in my grandfather being born.I believe, that once Lewis reached the Shenandoah Valley ,he stayed there until his death. I am trying to find anything I can on Lewis Beans parents. So far I have been unsuccessful. Any scrap would be a greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carol.
My 6th great grandmother, Margaret Choulyn, a Cherokee, was said by one researcher to have been born in 1725 in Virginia and died in 1786 in Virginia, but she could not remember where she found that info. Of Margaret Choulyn's many descendants who are researching (she had some 20 children), no one else has been able to find a birth/death record for her. The only place her name seems to appear is on the Peaked Mountain Church Records (which are online) noting the births of several children. Margaret's husband, Hans Peter Harmon, died sometime after 1787 in Tennessee, but there is no record of Margaret joining her husband in Tennessee. However, I believe there is a land purchase reference to him on or near that date. Again, no one has any sources. Any help is appreciated, Thanks, Judy
My G-G-Grandfather, Lemuel H. WINDSOR, had a brother named William L. and his sister was named Jane Catherine. She married James M. LARCOMBE around 1853-4 and lived in Washington, DC, most of her life. As a matter of fact, all three of these WINDSOR's spent most of their adult lives (after the 1850 census) in Washington, DC. However, Jane died in Phoebus, Virginia, in 1899 and was buried in the Congressional Cemetery in DC. Her husband, James, died in 1903 in Phoebus also and is buried with Jane in Congressional. My Mother remembers sometime during her younger years (in the 1930-40 timeframe) visiting with several elderly ladies in Phoebus, VA. She does not know who these ladies were as she was so young. I see from internet sources that there are still some Larcombe's in Virginia ... in the Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, and Fairfax areas. If you had ancestors who were related to the LARCOMBE's/SCULLY's who in the early- to mid-20th Century lived in Phoebus, please contact me. According to his obituary, James' grandaughter, Emma Scully (her Mother was Jane and James' daughter), was living with him in Phoebus in 1903 when he passed away. She was only about 6 years old. I would appreciate any information you may have on the above people. Thank you in advance, <mailto:[email protected]>Betty
Hi List Anyone in Virginia whose Gordon ancestors may have emigrated from Tyrone/Donegal counties in Ireland, have a look at my web site at geo.gordon users.btopenworld.com Regards George Gordon in Northern Ireland
I have a John Lilly that came from England, On June 20, 1642 John Lilly and his eife secured "land grant of 350 acres situated in Milford Haven Creek, York County. Milford Haven was in that portion of York County which became Gloucester County in 1651 and Mathews County in 1790. According to the records of Colonia Gloucester County, Va.", compiled by Mrs Polly Cary Mason, the "Roxbury" lands now in Mathews County Virginia are a part of the original grant to John Lilly in 1642 and inherited by descendants. Mary, his wife, married Edmund chisman prior to 1646. This statement is confirmed by court records of York County which states that edmund Chisman was the stepfather to John Lilly, orphan. So, John Lilly died sometime between the purchase of the land and the marriage of his wife to Edmund Chisman. John the orphan, married Dorothy Wade, daughter of Arminger Wade John and Dorothy had two children: John (born 3, Aug 1669, in Pocosin Parish, VA - ) who married a Miss Billup (I think Mary Billup) whose father was Richard Billups. I think she was born around 1672 in Virginia) They settled in Gloucester County, Va. Mary Lilly, who married Robert Reade of York County, VA John had I think 8 children 1. Robert Lilly married Francis Moody and eventually settled around Bluestone River in Summers County, WV. (my ancestry) 2. John Lilly went west early in life and so passed out of the Gloucester County Records 3. Edmund Lilly married Anne ____. Had three children: John, Mary and William 4. Arminger Lilly married Elizabeth ______ and had 10 children: Samuel, Arminger Jr, William, John, Pleasant, Elizabeth, Rachel, Ann, Mary and Robert 5. Thomas Lilly settled in what is now Fluvanna County. Had 4 children. Robert, Edmond, Joshua, Ann 6. William Lilly died Sept 12, 1781 in Gloucester County. He had 7 children: John Captain Thomas, William A, Richard, Nancy, Eliza and Ann 7. Dorothy Lilly, no data 8. Elizabeth Lilly married Dr. Robert Phillipson of York County, Va. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Sandy Sandra Moten 1562 University Lane, Unit 706 Cocoa, Florida 32922 321-637-3708

Hi Marg & all, The state of Virginia kept records of births and death from 1853-1896 on register pages, that is alot of people who were born within the same year on and their information on large pages, and in the case of death records alot of people who died within the same year and their information on large pages. Only about half of the deaths were reported and not all of the births ecause they were noit required ot be then. Between 1897-June 13th of 1912 the state of Virginia kept no records of deaths or births due to budget cuts at the time. Then on June 14th of 1912 they started keeping individual certificates of births and deaths which continue to this day. I believe they were required to report the births and deaths starting at the same time. Some counties and cities kept their own records for births and/or deaths during that time. You may want to try county or city courthouses to see if they have records for the missing years. Hope this helps. God bless, Beth :) [email protected] > Hi List: > > Can anyone tell me if birth records from 1908 exist? Hi List: Can anyone tell me if birth records from 1908 exist? From the health dep't website, it looks like they don't but perhaps I'm not understanding the info correctly. It looks like they have them from 1912 forward, and 1896 backward. The one I am looking for was likely in Emory, Washington Co., April 10, 1908, Dorothy Maude Milden. Would just like to confirm that she was indeed born in Emory. Thank you, Marg
From: Janice R Freeman [email protected] To: ALL McDADE Descendants Announcing: McDADE-DNA Project Visit: the Sept McDade Clan Davidson home page at mcdade.bravepages.com and go to the: McDade Surname DNA Project page under Table of Contents If you have questions, contact me at [email protected] You can read more about DNA Testing through the Links at mcdade.bravepages.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test. Does anyone have any information about the Cherokees who would have been living/trading in or through the Shenandoah Valley and Peaked Mountain areas? This would be in the first half of the 1700s. They would have had contact with the German immigrant community there. Thanks, Judy
