There is also an excellent book out there that has been referenced previously on this list, that covers photographs from 1840 to 1900. It is called "Dressed for the Photographer - Ordinary Americans and Fashion 1840-1900" by Joan Severa. It makes a great reference book, not to mention entertaining reading. Good Luck. Pat Sadataki

Pat Sadataki Pat, One should use this book with some caution. My wife and I have had several discussion with Joan Severa about her clothing dating and some of her descriptions. She readily admits that she is not a clothing expert, but is only collector of photographs. The pictures are great to look at. Bill Christen -- gwjchris@earthlink.net
