Hello List. I need help copying old photos. I have all my in-laws pictures going back to the 30's to the present. I am wanting to make albums for family members by Christmas at a reasonable cost. I have a Canon AE1 Camera with a magnifying lenses for different sizes of pictures and copy stand with the lights set up. I have in the past taken my pictures outside and not used lights and seemed to have a lot better luck with natural light. With the lights the pictures are so orange and the photo labs can't seem to get the coloring right. I'm tired of paying their costs!!. At first I thought it was the photo lab that I'm using but now I'm not so sure. They just don't look good. Would I be better off getting a digital camera and downloading them right into the computer. Any suggestions on a Camera for taking pictures of pictures?? Software program for photo editing, what type of printer??? Scanner or would the digital camera do it?? I'm looking into buying a new computer (Mine is 6 years old). What suggestions for mainly genealogy and photo work?? We don't play games but will be making CD's of pictures and music. HELP!!!!! Cindy, The yellowish tone of your copies is the result of the combination of your film type and light source. Most readily available film is know as "outdoor" film, meaning that it is balanced for the spectrum of light you get from sunlight. It also works fine with electronic flash. There is also "indoor" or tungsten film which is balanced for light from ordinary incandescent lamps but this type is not as readily available. You can correct the outdoor film for use with tungsten by using a filter on your camera. With ordinary lamp bulbs use a No. 80A filter. If you are using special photoflood bulbs, use a NO. 80B. (Different filtering would be needed for fluorescent lighting.) Robert E.
