I'm not sure how much I can help, Barbara, but I'd like to take a look. Why don't you post the photos somewhere online so everyone can look at them and help more easily and safely? Then you only have to give out the web address. Have you tried doing a search through http://www.google.com/ for "old glass photograph" or perhaps "old tin photograph" or "dating old photographs"?
