    1. [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] Re: do it yourself photo labs

    3. I never did receive any replies to my query, although a number of folks asked me to share what I found out, so there is definite interest in the subject. Do-it-yourself photo labs do exist. In my area (Northern California) there are several. The one I chose (called The Darkroom) will teach me how to make photos from my negatives from the 1920's & 1930's for about $15. The lesson takes 1/2 hour. Use of the darkroom (chemicals etc.) is $10 per hour. Paper is 40 cents per sheet. He said it does not take long to learn to do it well and it is possible to do 40 or so negatives per hour (I have several hundred). He said that first I should make a positive so that I can see if the photo is worth making copies of. This is a heck of a lot cheaper than any of the custom developers I spoke with. They averaged $5 per 1 photo! Phyllis Gessert Garratt
