    2. JB Wilson
    3. Hello list, I have an old negative, circa 1937, which has a fairly sizeable bent corner. Is there anyway to unbend the negative without breaking the film? Thanks. 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] photo restoration question
    2. Hello, I hope it is ok to ask questions like this. I have scanned and restored a old poloroid type photo of my parents. The original was almost totally black. It looks pretty nice on the monitor. Now, my question is, where can I send the digitized photo and get a print? I printed it out on my printer, HP DESKJET 841C..... don't laugh - - not good. Any suggestions? thanks BRANDY

    3. Kinko's has a new service which does this very thing from disk... give them a call and see what format/dpi/other requirements they have. I haven't tried it yet - just saw they offered it last Sunday. Good luck! 3. Depending on where you live, Melanie, the best bet would be to check the search engines [ http://www.google.com ] for courses, books, organisations etc. "Photo preservation" will be good words to start with. Lance -----Original Message----- From: M. Young [mailto:mlyoung1@flash.net] Subject: [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] Photo education question.... I want to learn more about photo preservation and dating/id'ing through either self study or classes. I would appreciate some recommendations of good books to read or recommended specialized classes to take in that area of study. Melanie

    1. RE: [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] Photo Age question.....
    2. Lance
    3. Probably what you have there is a photographer's "proof" which was cut from the full sheet of proofs. The number underneath would be the photographer's filing reference to find the relevant negative. Photographers usually made a "proof" sheet for clients by contact printing the negatives on to a full sheet of photographic paper. That way, a client was able to view the whole collection and select the prints required. In most cases, the proofs remained with the client. Contact prints were made by just placing the negatives directly onto the photo paper, sandwiching it in a frame designed for the purpose and exposing the frame to a light source. Lance -----Original Message----- From: M. Young [mailto:mlyoung1@flash.net] Subject: [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] Photo Age question..... I have been sent a scan of a photo that looks like it could have been taken anywhere from the 1930's to the early 1950's according to the style of dress. It is a small photo that looks like it has been manually cut from a sheet of the same photo. It appears it may have been expertly colorized. It has a matte finish. The person's face's lines appear to have been softened. I know that my 1963 school color photos had much more precise replication of the subject than does this picture. Across the bottom is written 6T - 22111 - 4. Is that significant? The lady in the picture was born in 1906. She appears to be in her 30's or 40's with auburn hair (no gray showing).

    1. [VINTAGE-PHOTOS] My "new" URL. This is the last mass email I swear!
    2. Thank God!! Someone was great enough to inform me that AOL has changed part of it's url from Hometown to user.aol. And the person doesn't work for AOL! AOL never informed me! This is so RUDE! I swear...I will never send another mass email again! I didn't join all these lists to have things not go right. I really want to get my website out there. I think that there are really good links and old pictures to be seen by all who care to look. I might send a mass email if it is a birth or death situation. But only to those that would truly matter. Here's my URL... http://user.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Take care, Ella

    2. I hope this gets out to everyone that I sent the original one out to. Hi all (again), I see that AOL is having difficulties with their webpages. So...after I was up all night putting my site together and after I sent another mass email giving a shout about my site...I feel like Charlie Brown. ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (on my back) Please try my site again later. I really do hope it works. If not...then it's back to the drawing board! thanks, Ella

None of the suggestions for the filing cabinet worked, but I am happy with the info I received from you wonderful people out there. Now... A web page with....dah...dah....dah...dah... nothing but genealogy links. Most of them are completely free. Only a few of them have limited access. When it's limited access...you still get enough free info to get you started. Mostly all of the links are links to web pages that could be beneficial for everyone. Other area or name specific sites would include... Philadelphia, PA. sites and sites that cover all of PA. incl. a site: Orphanages in PA. Irish research sites English research sites German research sites American Indian Resources a large EAVES/EVES/EYVES surname site a large RITTER surname site a large KERCHER surname site genealogy sites for children The URL is... http://hometown.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Good luck all, Ella Happy Hunting! My family website with lots of links... http://hometown.aol.com/ella12866/index.html I piece together the past so my children won't be as confused as I am.
