    1. [VICK-L] Recent disagreements

    3. Dear List Members, I have been reading all the recent postings concerning the War Between the States (or whatever other name you choose to use when referring to it). I personally have enjoyed most of the dialog and have gained a great deal of knowledge that I did not have previously. I was born in South Georgia and again live in the deep south now after having lived in several other places over the course of my 50+ years. I must admit that I have never lived in the north or even been anyplace in the north other that Washington, D.C. I have been very lenient in allowing all sorts of postings to be made to our Vick-L list. The primary purpose of the list is to discuss geneology and I believe this should include how history or historical events affected the lives of our ancestors. I cannot allow anyone to deliberately post things that will be hurtful or even embarrassing to the other members of the list. I have resubscribed Jeffery Crawford Vick to our list after sending him a note explaining my reasons for doing so. I hope that he will remain with us and continue to share his vast knowledge. At the present time I have placed the list on "Moderated Status" which simply means that all postings will come to me before they go to the list. If I find something that I feel may be offensive to others I will contact the sender with my feelings and allow them the opportunity to reword their message or to withdraw it if they choose to do so. I do not feel that it is my job to suppress any of the information that is sent to the list but I do feel that it is my responsibility to keep people's feelings from being hurt (although I do realize that some people "wear their feelings on their shirt sleeves" and will take offense to things that should not offend them). I foresee returning the list to "Normal Status" within a very short period of time. I feel that this discussion will have completely run its course in the very near future. We have had several people to unsubscribe because of this discussion. We need to retain all the members we can in order to have access to all the knowledge available about our ancestors. Thank you, Linda Fiddie
