Gosh, Dave -- Sometimes you force me to be a stuffy, dusty pedant and this is one of those times. Technically, arms (crests) are granted to individuals and their heirs (if merited), not whole families. I have seen three crests granted to Vicks: one is German, one seems to be French, and the third is English. A lot of "genealogists" out to make a buck, send out these crests to people with the same surname and say that this is the "[insert surname] Family Crest." And they are making a fair amount of money this way. Now, we can contact the Royal College of Arms in England and find a crest granted to a Vick and use that as a banner OR some talented Vick here could create a design that we Vicks could adopt as our own family symbol. Crests were intended to identify knights and their followers on the battlefield -- we could create a symbol that would be our rallying point through family and friendship. That's my dust for the day.
