To my fellow Vicks, I hope no one thinks that I have abandoned my responsibilities to the list. I still read everything that is posted and frequently correspond privately with different list members. I have been working with Census 2000 since February while still helping to care for my Mother. I have not had much free time. This past week has also been very stressful for our family. Mom lost two of her sisters. The first died on Wednesday April 26th (see obituary below). We returned last evening from the funeral trip to Florida and the other sister died during the night Saturday. These two (as well as my Mom) were the children of Mary Jane (Cannon) and Connie Rad Vick of Thomas County Georgia. All ten of the children were born on their farm near the community of Patten. The following is a transcription of the obituary from the Tampa Tribune on April 28, 2000: AKRIDGE Mrs. Rosa Lee Akridge, 79, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday April 26, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday April 29, 2000 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mrs. Akridge was of the Baptist Faith and retired from Nations Bank after 25 years of service. She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Elwood and husband Richard, of Brooksville, FL; a brother, Homer Vick, of Thomasville, GA; four sisters, Janie Barnes of Thomasville, GA; Thelma Ratliff, of Panama City, FL; Ola Mae Jordan, and Ellen Morris, both of Thomasville, GA; 2 grandchildren, Natalie Davis, Ft. Myers, FL; and Rick Elwood, of Tampa, FL; one great grandchild, Kellam Davis, of Ft. Myers, FL. BLOUNT CURRY & ROEL Funeral Homes & Cemeteries Garden of Memories Chapel 4207 E. Lake Ave. Tampa, FL 33610 (813) 626-3161 (Note: Homer Vick and Ola Mae Jordan actually live in Ochlocknee, not Thomasville). The sister who died last night was Janie Barnes. I will post the transcript of her obituary on Tuesday. (They do not publish a paper on Monday in our neck of the woods.)
