    1. [VICK-L] Let's slow down a little!
    2. Di Ann Vick
    3. Doris is right -- Vick-L and the JVFOA are two completely separate and wonderful groups. Vick-L is part of the larger Rootsweb project, which I, too, support. I don't know whether or not Linda Fiddie, our site master, pays an additional fee for the Vick list. If she does and wants contributions toward maintaining it, I think she should make that determination. The Joseph Vick Family of America is a chartered, non-profit organization. Its directors are elected by the members who attend the annual meeting. The directors are responsible for managing the organization. They meet during the annual meeting and when a decision such as the current offer is required they are sent the appropriate information and then share their opinions and a decision is made. As for the current distribution of the Joseph Vick chronology, many have volunteered contributions toward it. My expenses are paper, envelopes and postage. The envelopes and paper are gratis, but I would like to remind folks that when we request genealogical information by snail mail it is a good idea to send the person supplying the information a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Now, those of you who have requested the chronology, don't start sending me envelopes -- my trusty computer and I have already prepared the envelopes and are just waiting for the requests to slow down. When the orders stop, I'll print up the requests and put them in the mail. I am thrilled with the interest in this information summarizing the known documents on Joseph Vick that I have found and I am delighted to share it. And thank each of you who has contributed to the mailing costs. That is very thoughtful of you. And also thank you for your many kind comments about the book that John Beatty and I are producing and for your nice comments about the Newsletter. Di Ann

    1. Re: [VICK-L] Help with the cost and What about that Banner?
    2. See I knew you guys would come up with some good stuff. I do have another thought. I know that is scary but here goes. Nobody has made mention of the Banner I spoke of. This is no big deal I just thought it would be nice to have at reunion time. It might also help some of us understand if we Vicks have a family Crest, what it should look like. I know there is not any one person out there that can say, oh yes this is our family crest and this is what it looks like. If our silent majority would come out of hiding I would like to here some discussion of that and see if we can approve something we can all say okay that is what we think it is. So what do you think oh silent ones, Speak to us. If you wait until it is a done deal to say oh no that's not it. Your vote will not count so if you have a thought or care speak now or you know the rest, that's right forever hold your peace. Anybody can sit back and say no no no see I told you it was no. I am looking for enough of us to step up and say yes I'll accept that Crest. So unless somebody has another Crest in mind My vote will go for the one I have posted to the My Family page. I will be happy to provide the company name that did the research if anybody would like to have that. I do know from the other Crest I have seen so far they all seem to have similarity with some differences..... So let talk about it? Make up my mind will ya! On the issue of donating $5 bucks each. I was hoping we would all take turns paying the $25 each. That way if I go last, hmmm lets see we have about 100 on the list oh well if I live long enough I would be very happy to pay when my turn comes up.... (Grin) Now I'm laughing. Don't get your panties in a bunch I am just teasing. I think the $5 dollars each sent to JVFOA treasure to be used as needed will work just fine. Actually we are an extension and part of the JVFOA so when the bill for the list comes due it would be very easy for him to send a check. Hold the phone you guys. We seem to have gone right past Linda. She might prefer to handle the fund herself. I see no reason why it would need to go to the Treasure of the JVFOA if Linda wants to be the Treasure of the list as well as it's founder. Linda this is where you say something...(Grin) Now what about that Banner? 2. Jack Landers
    3. Whoa Down Here, Folks! Let me get in on this, too! I do believe Di Ann is right, though. I assume the Directors of JVFOA were elected to handle things such as this (or generously volunteered -- I'm not sure which), so let's let them handle it. Perhaps it would not be out of order to establish a 'contingency' fund which could be used to cover unusual but necessary expenses such as those associated with copying and mailing the Joseph Vick Chronology. Each of us could then contribute to this fund, to be used at the discretion of the Directors. Since I am also a Rootsweb Sponsor at $24 per year (I recommend this to one and all, also), the cost of the fees associated with the site could be paid or reimbursed to Linda Fiddie from this fund also. I recommend you propose this or something similar to the Directors, Di Ann. Perhaps an additional $1 to $5 per year would be appropriate. In the meantime, perhaps the donations/contributions you get could be used to defray your current expenses, with any surplus (if any) returned to the JVFOA treasury. Jack Landers P. S. My check is in the mail, Di Ann. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Di Ann Vick" <davick@bellatlantic.net> To: <VICK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 22, 2000 2:32 PM Subject: Re: [VICK-L] Help with the cost > Thank you kindly, suh! > > Actually, I'm kinda overwhelmed with the generosity of our JVFOA and Vick-L > members. 3. Thank you kindly, suh! Actually, I'm kinda overwhelmed with the generosity of our JVFOA and Vick-L members. One member of both has just offered to very generously underwrite our activities! However, I will have to take his offer up with Linda Fiddie, our site master, and with the directors of JVFOA. Frankly, while I appreciate his generosity, I think it is better to spread out the financial responsibilities/obligations. 2. Jim Vick
    3. Good afternoon David and the list, Re your post .."I would like to raise money for".... 1) The $25 per year sounds like a small amount to start raising or collecting money to place in the bank, so I for one am willing to pay the $25 occasionally. 2) As for the banner or any other paraphernalia for the JVFOA Reunions I don't mine donating for such, but the cost should be routed through the JVFOA account. OK? Just wanted to let you know that I do read your messages. Ha. Jim Vick Verona, Italy

The Family has decided to dispense with the use of the rack and other methods of reminding one and all of their Family connection. And in all seriousness I would love to meet each and every one of my relatives. And at my age I would prefer it be sooner than later. Yours, Morgan Vick

    1. [VICK-L] Re: Show Me The Money and Stuff
    2. << Again, thanks for the answer. Will be looking forward to the Newsletter and the Book. It's a pity the JVFOA meeting won't be held in Fort Wayne again, though. This time I know about it and would attend. Jack Landers Dear List. I would like to jump in while we are talking about JVFOA and the News Letter. Oh well lets through in our list as well. I would like to raise a little money. I am open to suggestions anything from selling DiAnn at public auction to just plan old donating because it is needed. Here is what I would like to raise money for. 1. It cost $25 per year to maintain our list on the web. It was paid last year by a friend of the list. It has already been spoken for this year 2000 by a Friend of the Vick list. However you and I both know it will come up year after year. How do you think we should raise the money to pay for the list we all enjoy so much? All put a little in the pot each year. Or take turns coughing up the $25 bucks by one generous sole each year as we go? 2. The JVFOA News letter? This is the only source of income the JVFOA Inc. has so if you don't get the News letter but want to contribute to the cause just subscribe. They say confession is good for the soul so here goes. I am behind in my JVFOA dues. I don't know where to send the money. (That's my story and I am sticking to it.) I know it has been posted on this list but as you all know by now, I don't keep records. Out of sight out of mind. So if the nice man would be kind enough to post where our dues can be sent again I will bring my delinquent account up to date. I beleive this act alone will keep JVFOA solvent for a few years to come.I know they are a not for profit organization but it does take money to write and mail out the news letter. Well, I don't think it takes money for DiAnn to write she is rather small and I think a crust of bread from time to time should be enough... (Grin) Of course DiAnn knows I am just teasing her. She has done so much for so long with so little I hope it never changes. (Now I am really GRINNING) #. lastly and I understand this one may not make the cut. Or we should talk about it some before we move on this one. I would like to have two vinyl banners made with the Vick Crest and maybe the History of the Family name on it to be posted at our Annual JVFOA Reunions. This might even help us decide what we are going to accept as our family crest. Nobody seems to know what it should be now? I know there are some different ones out there. The History of the name? You guys know I don't care. I did pay an outfit to do the research for me and I have what they came up with. If that is acceptable to all well maybe I should say most I don't think we can get an ALL does anybody out there. Any way I posted what I have to the My Family page if you have not seen the crest and the history of the name you can go check it out, who knows you might like it.. I am not trying to make that be the right one. I would just like for the main researchers and the most affluent ones involved in the VICK research to come up with something they can agree on and lets fly it just like we knew what we were doing. So what do you think guys and Girls? Wouldn't you like to check in to the next Motel where the JVFOA is having the Reunion and see a nice Welcome To The JVFOA banner with our family Crest and whatever on it. If you don't want to do any of the stuff above vote for me in Nov. I promise to cut your taxes and raise retirement monies add better healthcare and anything else you might think of. A vote for me would make your Mama proud. By the way I want to thank everyone for your discussion of the Southern Flag and the War / Slave issues. I just had a Niece come to my home wearing a big Rebel Belt Buckle on her belt. Of course I had to ask her what that meant to her. I want try to say all she said I will simply leave it with this. After we talked about one hours she still wanted to know more. Thanks to all my very intelligent cousins out there. I was able to share more information with her about the South our Flag/ and some reasons she never learned in School. I think she left with a true feeling of pride in her Sourthen roots. Where she seemed to have had a little more Rebel in her thinking before we talked.
