    3. Hi Jay, I have one question not related to the surname. How did you get any documents from Tennessee????? When I tried to get a death and marriage certificate, they told me they did not start keeping records until the 1900s. This was also true for Gibson County, Tenn. which is where I am really interested in. It would be of great help to find these documents. 3. Even though only only 9 of 185 candles were dangerous, thought this was important enough to pass along. (especially for those of us with children or grandchildren.) In today's(Feb. 25, 2000) AZ. Rupublic (Quoted entirely as printed) LEAD HAZARD ALLEGED FROM BURNING CANDLES Couples who light candles for a romantic dinner or because the power goes out, could put enough lead into the air to endanger small children, said a study released Thursday by a consumer advocacy group. Of 285 candles bought in the Washington area, the cotton wicks in 86 of them were stiffened with metal, and nine of those used high amounts of lead, the Public Citizen study said. The cotton wick of the candle is woven around a narrow stiffener, which can be metal or paper. When the candle burns, the metal melts and releases a residue into the air. Residue from lead in the wicks is dangerous, said Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the organization's health research group.

    3. To my VICK FAMILY: the "real Vick" thing started when a very sensitive in-law questioned me on WHY I was working so hard on the William Henry Vick Memorial Service. It became a family joke. They can't help but become interested in Vick Family history with me around. Some are contributing information quite unexpectedly. I am interested in passing-on the heritage to my son and grandchildren. Gosh, they are even learning some history while doing it! Now that I think about it, the in-law who asked me "Why are you working so hard on this when you are not even a 'real Vick' worked harder than anyone! My Mother-in-Law (a Taylor) "took me in" and treated me like one of hers from the beginning or our marriage. What a wonderful blessing she had been to me! Thank you all for being my REAL VICK FAMILY! 2. Jay, You might also want to mention that his surname is given as DAIN on his marriage bond to Adelia. Adelia is listed as Adelia C. DANE on her death record (Kentucky Vital Statistics; Vol. 34; Certificate 16790) and in "Muhlenberg County, Kentucky Deed Book 45"; p. 322. Muhlenberg County, Kentucky Circuit Court; The Kentucky Bank & Trust Company, Administrator of William A. Further, according to his marriage bond to Adelia, he lived in Montgomery Co., KY (sic -- should be TN), and was a single farmer. His parents were born in Dixon Co. Finally, he was born about 1851 in Montgomery Co., TN, according to the marriage record. Someone with access to Montgomery Co., TN, records should be able to find him there. Regards, Larry

    3. HELP!!! OK My Great-Uncle Frank Atkinson said that he only saw his Grandfather once when he was 8 yrs old. That would of been in 1917, in Clarksville, Tennessee. He said he was called Grandpa DEAN. Now I got info from Larry Vick that he was J. L. (Joseph) Dane (No Dates). Frank's Grandmother was Adelia VICK 1/8/1856 - 6/14/1913 Kty. Adelia is the Daughter of Lemuel Washington Wood VICK Now what I need is.....is it DEAN or DANE?, What is J.L.'s Name?, Was a VICK & DEAN/DANE Married? Looks like most of this took place in Muhlenburg County, Kty Thanks, Jay

    3. This is certainly of interest to me, Doris. The unnamed children you speak of are my aunts and uncles. > >........................................................................... .................... Names have about run out in Texas. Will you send us some > > if any to spare. Apparently children must have been left unnamed for many years if Cornelia's remarks are to be taken literally. If this letter was written Thursday, February 25, 1892, There were apparently three unnamed children; namely, Joe (b. 1886), Hosie (b. 1888), and Ora (b. 1890). The children named above: Dave (b. 1878), Homer (b. 1880), Cora (b. 1882), and Willis (b. 1884) were all born before 1885, thus would have been more than 7 years old in 1892. Even Ora (Auntie to me), who married Ed Skinner, would have been more than a year old. Aunt Flora was apparently not born yet, as she didn't come along until 1893. Thanks for posting this. I appreciate it very much. Jack Landers

    2. Di Ann, I have been in contact with Larry. So far William J. VICK and Sarah Taylor "Polina" PARKER date and place of deaths haven't been proven. I have a "feeling" they died here in Texas or at least on the way. Do you have any confirmation of the children being brought to Texas by their uncles? Or where Henry M. and Edward VICK settled? I do know that 3 of the 5 children were placed in separate homes within a 3 county spread here in Texas according to the 1860 census. I'm sorry, but I haven't tired to prove anything past William J. You know...two steps forward and one step back. :) Kristi Hornsby

    3. Hi, Kristi -- I'm afraid I can't add anything to your search for information on Mary Susan. I do have some information which may be helpful about her father, William J. I believe that he and his wife Sarah Taylor "Polina" Parker died in Muhlenberg County, KY about 1856 and that their children were taken to Texas by their uncles, Henry M. and Edward Vick. James Larry Vick (jlvicl@aol.com) has gathered a great deal of documentary evidence on William J., which you may already have. If not, you may want to contact him or I would be glad to share what he has given me. But perhaps you can help me: I am descended from Stephen's brother, Isaiah, and none of us has been able to prove that Jacob is the son of Isaac. Have you been able to prove it?
