Jack, With a comparitively small list like ours is we can always email the person and ask if they sent it. I know that files that are marked .exe are usually suspect. Once again my reading from the bottom saved the day. Thanks, Di Ann for alerting everyone so fast. suzanne
Di Ann, Want to echo what Bob says here. I did not receive the e-mail or files either. I have the McAfee Virus Shield program with Internet filters running in the background all the time, so it checks everything that comes into my computer. While it is not foolproof, it gives some level of confidence. Probably the best insurance is simply to delete any questionable e-mail or attachments you get. I know -- that's awful hard to do for curious (inquisitive) people like most of us are, but it can save a lot of time and trouble. Good morning Di Ann, A couple of years ago I received an attachment supposedly from a nephew which ha a virus that cleaned out my hard drive, since then I have always saved attachments to disk and run virus scan before opening, in all this time I have only found virus 2 times one was your "Pretty Parks" yesterday. I found it had an unknown virus, but deleted it so it didn't hurt me. Regards, Jim Vick Verona, Italy
Di Ann, Thank you for doing the responsible thing and alerting us all. I started to post the McAfee alert the other day, but they said it was just Medium risk. I do not think a virus will go through the list, "plain text". I did not receive the e-mail and files from you but would have opened anything you sent with great anticipation, so the alert is greatly appreciated. I cannot comprehend the type of person that would attempt such destruction, but we are all subject to it, and hope we will all respond as you did. Mike... Always happy to see a message pop up from another descendent of Samuel Vick of Arkansas. Mary C and I are working on the Arkansas relatives. Our lines are from other of Samuel's children. Judy Harkey, however, who has supplied us with a lot of information is from Alfred's line. Contact me out of list for more. Suzanne Vick Golladay zana-vg@worldnet.att.net
Di Ann, Do you have any info on GEORGE FELIX VICK? He is my ggrandfather. The only George Felix I have found is the son of Alfred and Caroline Vick (from Joseph Jurlina). I have nothing on him after 1910 (census), or before the 1900 census which say he was married 12 years to Nancy Hunter (my ggrandmother). Larry -- Thanks for the clarification; I will correct our information. We (I -- John is overloaded with other work right now) are beginning additional work on generation 6 and I would appreciate any information you may have on Stephen's children. Is Ollie (Vick) Hines still alive? I have tried to contact her in the past, but received no reply. I know she gathered a good bit of information directly from descendants of both Stephen and Isaiah. While some of her work on Isaiah's descendants (as reported in her book) is not completely accurate, a lot of it is just wonderful. That's one of the problems in publishing your work, people find your mistakes! (I'm joking folks -- sharing and learning is what this wonderful pasttime of genealogy is all about.) Di Ann, I don't know where the idea that William's children were brought to TX by William's brothers came from. I don't find anything in my notes about that. I also haven't located any records on William's death. I now see that given the date of birth I have in my notes for William (1 Oct 1818) that he would have died later than Vickie had in her book. She had that he died at the age of 38 years and nine months, and she believed that to be 22 Oct 1856. I had used 22 Oct 1856 as his date of death, but after putting 38 years and nine months into my date calculator I see that would be about July 1857. More details to sort out! When I have the time, I intend to check Vickie's information that there is a guardianship record dated 5 Jun 1860 in Fannin Co., TX, for William's son Bingham S. I don't know what John finally decided about Stephen's children, but at one time I sent him my thoughts that he had an error. He had both an Edward Montgomery and an Edmond C as children of Stephen. I believe that someone confused the changing names in the records of Stephen's children and came up with two separate children that were, in fact, the same person. It appers the child was originally called Edmund Montgomery, but came to be known as Edward C. I have looked at the tax records of Muhlenberg Co., KY, and I believe I have accounted for the children correctly. Would you correct my Zip code on the newsletter address? It should be 33463-6568 but it is being mailed to 53463-6568. Regards, Larry
Larry, Thank you so much for the information on William J. VICK's brothers. I still haven't been able to locate the place of death or verify the dates of William J. VICK and Sarah Taylor PARKER. Are you still in contact with O. Vick Hines? I believe you said in a previous e-mail that her last name was now Stewart? I would love to get in touch with her directly. I hope you have a great weekend! Kristi
Larry -- Do you have any idea where the idea that William's children were brought to Texas by his brothers came from? I thought John Beatty had obtained that information from you -- but obviously I am wrong. In the draft of generation 6, we have it that William and his wife died in Muhlenberg County -- any idea of the source for that?
