Hi DiAnn Has the info on Joseph Vick been sent out yet. I have not received mine and I hope you received the things I sent to you. Faye
Gosh, no, Trudy -- I had a request in the current Vick Newsletter for someone to let me know about Union units in which Vicks served -- and you've done it! Thank you! Just in case you ever wondered about Genealogy!!!! Comments from previous viewers! ************************************************************ Since September I have spent no less than two hours a day (many times 4-5) doing genealogical research. This is a great hobby for people who really want to try their hand at constant confusion, weird dreams and a general feeling that you are constantly looking for someone...even when you are not seated at your keyboard! Enjoy the following forward! Deb *********************************************************** Got this from another list--enjoy! (Can't let Greg read them--he'd have them printed up for real! His fave threat right now is getting me a bumper sticker that reads "Genealogist Aboard--Sudden stops at cemeteries are likely!") Vonda *********************************************************** Thanks to Cayuga County New York mailing list! 1. My family coat of arms ties at the back....is that normal? 2. My family tree is a few branches short. All help appreciated. 3. My ancestors must be in a witness protection program! 4. Shake your family tree and watch the nuts fall! 5. My hobby is genealogy, I raise dust bunnies as pets. 6. How can one ancestor cause so much TROUBLE?? 7. I looked into my family tree and found out I was a sap. 8. I'm not stuck, I'm ancestrally challenged. 9. I'm searching for myself; Have you seen me? 10. If only people came with pull-down menus and on-line help... 11. Isn't genealogy fun? The answer to one problem leads to two more! 12. It's 2000... Do you know where your-Gr-Gr-Grandparents are? 13. A family reunion is an effective form of birth control. 14. A family tree can wither if nobody tends it's roots. 15. A new cousin a day keeps the boredom away. 16. After 30 days, unclaimed ancestors will be adopted. 17. Am I the only person up my tree... sure seems like it. 18. Any family tree produces some lemons, some nuts and a few bad apples. 19. Ever find an ancestor HANGING from the family tree? 20. FLOOR: The place for storing your priceless genealogy records. 21. Gene-Allergy: It's a contagious disease, but I love it. 22. Genealogists are time unravelers. 23. Genealogy is like playing hide and seek: They hide... I seek! 24. Genealogy: Tracing yourself back to better people. 25. "Crazy" is a relative term in my family. 26. A pack rat is hard to live with, but makes a fine ancestor. 27. I want to find ALL of them! So far I only have a few thousand. 28. I Should have asked them BEFORE they died! 29. I think my ancestors had several "Bad heir" days. 30. I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNEflower. 31. Only a Genealogist regards a step backwards as progress. 32. Share your knowledge; it is a way to achieve immortality. 33. Heredity: Everyone believes in it until their children act like fools! 34. It's an unusual family that hath neither a lady of the evening or a thief. 35. Many a family tree needs pruning. 36. Shh! Be very, very quiet . . . I'm hunting forebears. 37. Snobs talk as if they had begotten their own ancestors! 38. That's strange: half my ancestors are WOMEN! 39. I'm not sick, I've just got fading genes. 40. Genealogists live in the past lane. 41. Cousins marrying cousins: Very tangled roots! 42. Cousins marrying cousins: A non-branching family tree. 43. All right! Everybody out of the gene pool! 44. Always willing to share my ignorance... 45. Documentation . . . The hardest part of genealogy. 46. Genealogy: Chasing your own tale! 47. Genealogy . . . will I ever find time to mow the lawn again? 48. That's the problem with the gene pool: NO Lifeguards. 49. I researched my family tree . . . and apparently I don't exist! 50. SO MANY ANCESTORS.......................SO LITTLE TIME! ________________________________________ ______________________________

Have been in contact with another researcher who has the Line of Elizabeth Brewer Tates mothers line. Is anyone interested in receiving a copy? Mary Chenoweth
Found this while looking for someone else. Trudy http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/ky+index+565070692589+F 11th Kentucky Volunteers detailed roster The following names were compiled from Regimental Records at the National Archives. Spelling of names, along with alternate spellings, are as they appear on the Muster Rolls. Succeeding entries are: rank at enlistment, company assigned, age at enlistment, date enlisted and where enlisted. All enlistments were for three years, unless otherwise noted. The regiment was mustered into Federal Service on 9 Dec 61 at Calhoun, Kentucky. Hospitalizations, wounds, transfers, promotions and other information are also included. The regiment was mustered out of Federal Service 14-17 Dec 64 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Unfortunately, the regimental papers were lost to Confederate forces on 23 Nov 64 due to the abandonment of Pulaski, Tennessee by Federal forces. Major General Schofield ordered the evacuation of Pulaski to return to Nashville and only essential materials were taken along. However, a few duplicate enlistment and discharge certificates still survive. Vick, Joseph L., Private, E Co, 21 yrs, 10 Oct 61 at Earles, KY. Transferred to K Co 1 Jan 62. Promoted to Corporal 4 Jan 62. Jan-Apr 62 sick at Evansville, IN. Discharged 16 Dec 64 at Bowling Green, KY.
Trudy, He is Joseph L. VICK, born 24 Jul 1840 in Muhlenberg Co., KY, and died 5 Jul 1902 in Muhlenberg Co., KY, Jospeh is the son of Jacob Mercer VICK and Eliza Jane WILLIAMS. Thanks for the information. His uncle Sebastian C. "Captain Bass" VICK led the Union citizen-soldier defense of Greenville, KY when it was believed the Confederate general Hylan B. Lyon was marching to burn the courthouse there. General Lyon bypassed Greenville, so thankfully, we still have the records for family history research! Regards, Larry

W32/Pretty.worm.unp - Risk Assessment Upgraded Dear McAfee.com Dispatch Subscriber: W32/Pretty.Worm.unp, which AVERT upgraded to Medium--On Watch one week ago, has continued to spread rapidly. As a result, AVERT has now upgraded its risk assessment to HIGH Risk. If you are a new subscriber to McAfee.com Dispatch, or if you would like to review the original W32/Pretty.Worm.unp Virus Alert, please click here <http://dispatch.mcafee.com/dispatches/pretty> . VIRUS ALERT - W32/Pretty.worm.unp Dear McAfee.com Dispatch Subscriber: W32/Pretty.worm.unp is the unpacked edition of the original "W32/Pretty.worm" Internet worm. AVERT has upgraded its risk assessment from low to MEDIUM--ON WATCH, due to a significant increase in prevalence. It infects Windows 95/98/NT systems. W32/Pretty.worm.unp arrives via email from affected users who have also run this Internet worm. It appears as an attachment titled "Pretty Park.exe", with the icon of a character from the animated television series "South Park". This worm will try to email itself automatically every 30 minutes to all email addresses listed in the Internet address book. It will also attempt to connect to an IRC server and join a pre-determined IRC channel in such a way that the worm's author could use the IRC connection to retrieve such information as the computer name, registered owner, registered organization, system root path, and Dial Up Networking username and passwords. Trudy, This is true if the Vick-L list at rootsweb is the only list you are on. How many of us is that true for? You are correct about the *.exe files that you might receive as attachments, too. The 'Happy.exe' virus that went around last year was one of these. If you can query the sender, certainly you should do so, because they may not even know they have it. One of my sisters got the 'Happy.exe' virus, and we never did find out where it came from. The best insurance is a good anti-virus program, and, like Di Ann said, you need to keep it updated with the latest data. Also, you need to just delete any file attachments that are suspicious (just another way of saying you need to know who sent it to you before opening it).
