I don't know about many of the other areas named after Vick's, but if Vicksburg, Florida is the one I know, you may need to do some real digging. On Highway 77, just north of Lynn Haven, Florida (One of the few cities in the south to have a monument to the Union soldiers. It's a long story and I'll only tell it if someone expresses interest. The story about the statue of the boll weevil is shorter.) I've driven through that area many a time, when I was living in the pan-handle of Florida, and often wondered about it, since the only sign of life in that area is the forestry watch tower. Oh, and the sign on the highway that announces the location as Vicksburg. Ron

I also took another look at your picture and I can see the similarities. Take care, Jim Vick Verona, Italy

    3. Thank you so very, very much. I wondered where Rhoda's grave was and why she wasn't buried with Algernon. I'm forwarding this to my brother Roy, Jr who lives at Lake Royale ,Louisburg. Maybe he can scout out the areas ahead of time. I appreciate everyone's help. And, thank you, cousin. I'm timing my visit so I can be there for my "Aunt" Odell's(Rice/Gardner) birthday. She's the one who raised my dad (I know that you know this Joyce) after his mother died shortly after he was born. She's always been a grandmother to me. I hope a week is long enough!!!! Sure will be a good start-- thanks to all the help I'm getting!!! Thanks again, Trudy (Now how did you know , Joyce that it's supposed to be Trudi??) 2. Trudi, While you're at Peachtree, you might also want to visit your Grandmother's grave at the old Jones/Vick family cemetery just north of Peachtree. If you're not familiar with the location, you go about 2 1/2 miles north on hiway 581 toward Louisburg, and then turn left on Vick Road. Take the first driveway to the right on Vick Road, there is an old house there, which we think is where John Richard Vick and Tempie lived. We know that is the home of Walter Vick, Algie's younger brother. Your Grandmother Rhoda Griffin Vick and an infant child John C. Vick are buried in the cemetery in the yard there. When you leave there, turn right on Vick Road and at the next drive way to the left is my home place, which my Father purchased from Uncle Algie in the late 1930's. The old house that Uncle Algie lived in is not there anymore, but actually I grew up in that old house. The brick house that is there now was built in 1950. Also Uncle Algie's daughter Euzelia is buried beside him at Peachtree. Let me know if I can give you any other directions. While you're in Nashville, if you have time, you might try to get in touch with Joe Vick, phone 459-2889. He is a cousin, a great grandson of Josiah and Mary Manning Vick, and I believe, now owns the Lucian L Vick property. He has done a lot of work in researching the Vicks of Nash County. And, if she's home, Beulah Vick lives in the 2 story white house just down Vick road from the Lucian Vick home place. Its visible from the cemetery at the Lucian L. Vick home there. If she is home and well, (she is in her 90's born in 1906) she is also a wealth of knowledge about the Vick family. A good bet is to visit the Braswell Library in Rocky Mount, and for land records as well as to view the original will records, the Nash Court house is the best place. Do take time to visit the Archives in Raleigh tho. The most complete records are there, and the people there are most helpful. You will find that the Franklin County records are the most difficult to research, or at least, I thought so. But you should visit the courthouse there. A lot of the records are in the annex across the street from the Court house. Let me know if I can help you with anything in preparing for your trip. Good luck. Joyce

    3. Trudy, I understand the Braswell Memorial Library in Rocky Mount has a great genealogy room. The Tar River Connection Genealogy Society has their meetings there. Tim Rackley spoke at their last meeting and I know the library has some of his books. I hope you have time to go by Josiah and Mary A. W. Vicks homeplace on hwy 58 Northwest of Nashville. It's at the intersection of Vick Rd. (SR 1302). All that's left of Josiah and Mary's house is a brick chimney at the trailer park. Across the street is Lucian Lycurgus Vick's ole house. Josiah and Mary's gravesites are back of that house towards the woods. Hopefully it is in better condition now than when we were there Thanksgiving. We tried to clean it up so some but our time was limited. Did you receive the picture I sent of Josiah and Mary's house and their gravesite? Vicki Sellers ----- Original Message ----- From: T. J. When my obsession with geneaology was just beginning, I picked my Carr great-great grandmother to start with because her family was from a VERY small KY town named Carrsville (plus her nephew is still well and alert in his 90's). The town never had more than 500 or so residents even at its peak (term used loosely :-)) and as far as I can determine there was only one family line of Carrs there. Every source I get to says "Nothing is known of the town's founder, Billy Carr." All the anecdotal stuff from her nephew has been wrong. <Sigh> So much for the theory that something would be known about a town's founder! But there sure are a lot of Vicks (many of my Vick ancestors) buried there in the Vick Cemetery on Good Hope Bluff, including the pair that left Tidewater Virginia to settle in Kentucky. It is the loveliest, most peaceful cemetery I've ever visited. Pat Wilson (great-grandaughter of James Arthur and Ora Barnes Vick)
