    1. Re: [VIA-L] Layne-Laine-Lane
    2. I have seen in the book Tennessee Cousins where Robert Viar (from Floyd Co., Va.) was listed as an early settler of Dyer Co., Tn. I think, based on assumption, that this info is incorrect. You see, Dyer County, Tn. is where my parents are from. My fathers grandfather, Andrew Jackson Viar (born in Floyd Co., Va.), first settled there in 1872. His father, Robert Viar, never lived in Dyer County. Robert moved the family from Floyd Co., Va. to Roane County, Tn. about 1858. This Robert died in Roane County in 1877. I suspect, or assume, the info mentioned in Tennessee Cousins came from Goodspeeds History of Tennessee. Published in 1886, Goodspeed wrote a biography of Andrew J. Viar, who at the time was a resident of Dyer County. The article mentions him being from Floyd Co., Va. and that his father, Robert Viar, was orphaned when quite young. I have made an assumption here based on what facts I have, All together, these facts combined with the fact that no other Robert Viar in that time period has been found in Dyer County, creates a circumstance to make one believe that the information in Tennessee Cousins is incorrect. That doesn't mean that information won't come to light in the future to disprove this assumption. It just means that until it does, the circumstances dictate it's incorrect. Whenever I send someone information that hasn't been proven, I let them know. I think it's a good idea to share these assumptions with others in order to get feedback. Most of the time assumptions prove themselves one way or the other because everyone wants the truth. But it is important to let others know just what is not proven. Jeff Viar
