    1. VIA-D Digest V05 #130
    2. William, I have the two Geological Survey maps, one of the Quinton quadrangle that traces the Matadequin into New Kent County and the other being the Manquin Quadrangle that shows the origins of the creek [near the land of Gilson Via; this land came to him through his wife, Cynthia Hugues, so don't get excited; it wasn't Via land originally], tracing it until it enters into the Quinton one. Sorry, my despcription is poor. The surveys were done in 1965 and 1968 respectively. Actuallly, they do not help us determine the exact location of Amor's land any more than the description that someone quoted in an earlier message does. We only have a general idea, but taken together with much other data the location can be narrowed, I think I also have four negative images of Civil War Maps I ordered either from The National Archives or The Library of Congress, and they are very fine for locating land owners during the Civil War, but they are no help with the location of Amor's land. In addition, I have the Official Military Atlas of the Civil War. The maps are indispensable in locating landowners and showing topographical points such as elevation, creeks, rivers, hillocks, etc., but there is no clue to the precise location of Amor's land. If we use the 1782 Land Tax record and dates enumeration were taken that I posted earlier in the week, and compare them to all precincts in which Amor or sons, Robert and/or William appear, we might be able to eliminate some of the precincts that are listed. I or someone shall have to check to see if and where the name of Matadequin Creek appears in those early precincts if they do. I don't remember, and I am not looking at my notes. Janelle
