I know that you once posted a scanned page of other of Amor's children's baptisms, and I am now looking for "Nohome Uriah Edna, Thank you for reminding me about Nohome. I've looked at copies of the original and cannot say for certain that the name is Nohome. It could as easily be "no name". But I will add this recorded death to the notes. Thank you for formatting the processioning notes I sent to the list. Judy

    3. Judy - I know that the Colonial Dames when they transcribed the Saint Peter's Parish book used the name "Nohome" when she died. I think Chamberlayne did also. I have never considered that it meant "No Name", as I have never seen that construction used except by genealogists. In fact, some of the early genealogy software programs required that construction whenever one entered persons with unknown first names. Also many times people add that [no name] when transcribing old records such as this: Baptisms of interest include: In Great Eaton parish: ....9 Aug 1663 "'Sammuell', son of [/no name/] Gentry and [/no name/] his wife". The original parish record just said "Sammuell son of Gentry and his wife. In addition, If the death of "Nohome" was entered into the Register of an Anglican Parish, as was Saint Peter's, I think that it implies that she was already baptized. In the Anglican religion a person receives a name at baptism. I had always believed that her name was the biblical "Naomi", but now I am reconsidering that, as I think it was more likely a more commonly used name of that era and place. For example, if her name was "Honore", it may give a clue to connections with some of the local families.
