    1. Re: [VIA-L] Robert Via
    2. According to Robert Viar, son of Robert & Frances (Parker) Viar, he had two sisters. One named Bettie and the other Patsey. Bettie being the older of the two. He also said his grandparents were Robert Viar and Bettie Lane. It is my opinion that Robert may have gotten his wires crossed for the following reasons: 1.) Information about his grandparents was second hand knowledge being that his father was "orphaned when quite young." 2.) When he recalled the information (1907), it had been about 30 years since the passing of his father. 3.) His maternal grandmother was named Bettie. (she was still living through his teen years) 4.) The sister named Patsey. According to colonial tradition, she would have been named after the father's mother. (The first daughter was to be named after the mothers mother.) 5.) No record has been found that a Robert Viar married a Bettie Lane, whereas, a Robert Via did marry a Patsey Lane in 1804. All this is speculation is circumstantial, but I think it will be very difficult to disprove. I would love to see some hard evidence either way. Jeff Viar
