    1. Re: [VIA-L] Robert Via
    2. Assuming the Robert Via listed in the 1820 Federal Census of Franklin County, Va. is the Robert Via who married Frances Parker, let me add a little more info from Goodspeeds History of Tennessee. In the biography of my great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Viar, Goodspeed wrote that Robert married Frances Parker at age 21. If this is true, it would mean he was born around 1798 because it is fact they married in 1819. If the Robert Vie mentioned in the 1807 Personal Property Tax Lists of Franklin County was the father of my Robert, who married Frances Parker, he probably died shortly after the tax list was made, because , according to Goodspeed, my ancestor was orphaned "when quite young." My Robert Viar just seems to pop up in Franklin County out of nowhere. He doesn't seem to be closely related to the other Via's in the county because he was raised by a Mr. Hastin (Hairston). According to his War of 1812 pension application, he enlisted from the Franklin County Courthouse in 1815. That year, I believe it is fair to assume, he was around 17 or 18 years of age. Other than the Robert Vie who showed up in 1807, the next one doesn't show up until 1818 in the Personal Property Tax Lists as Robert Viar. If my assumptions are correct, my Robert would have been around age 20 or 21 in 1818, which in my opinion, would be about the right time he would have showed up on the tax lists. Robert Via who showed up in the Amherst County Personal Property Tax Lists from 1795 to 1804 disappears from there the year he married. Then the Robert Vie shows up in Franklin County in 1807. Is this a coincidence? Though I have no proof, I believe they are one and the same. Jeff Viar
