CLIFTON FORGE - Dorothy Elizabeth Downey Via, 87, of 9803 Rich Patch Road, Low Moor, died, Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was born on May 6, 1919 in Alleghany County, a daughter of Frank Alexander and Hettie Montgomery Downey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a homemaker and a member of the Low Moor Presbyterian Church, where she was very active. She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Via of the residence in Low Moor; one son, James Franklin Via and wife, Lou of Auburndale, Fla.; five grandchildren, Debbie Haywood and husband, Billy, Tammy Hughett and husband, Nathaniel, Jamie Via and wife, Carrie, Cheryl Sivis and Steven Sivis; and a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Randolph Via, Sr.; one daughter, Merle Via; one son, Harry "Pete" Randolph Via, Jr.; three sisters and four brothers. In keeping with her requests, her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The daughter will receive friends at the residence.
