Elaine - I thought you may be interested in this DNA info I found on Genforum. The reason I am sending this is that their are a number of seeming similarities and other connections between the Weir family of Pittsylvania County, with the Via family of Halifax County, including naming patterns. There is even a "Jonathan Weir": http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?virginia,va::weir::2230.html A male descendant of Thomas Weir of Pittsylvania Co., *VA* recently had a DNA profile completed. The profile does not match anyone currently listed in the Ware or Weir family DNA projects. As a matter of fact, he is of a completely different haplogroup. He is haplogroup I, while the others are from some form of haplogroup R. I would like to encourage other families who descend from Weir's who hale from *VA*, NC, and SC in the 1700's to join the project. Maybe we can figure out if any other of the Weir's or Ware's in this area are related. Because the I haplogroup appears to be rather rare compared with group R in the Weir/Ware family, it would probably be easy to link others from this family. I do have a paper trail that corroberates this male descendant's lineage all the way back to Thomas Weir. ... The male descendant is from Thomas Weir's son William. There were two other sons, Bezaleel and John.
