    1. [VIA-L] Civil War Deaths
    2. Maupin Reunion
    3. Good Afternoon, [email protected]!! I question the accuracy of the Civil War Reported Deaths. If they were killed in Battle I am sure it was not in Albem. County. I would suggest you take the date and go to the "War of the Rebellion" and locate the battle that took place on that date. Then check the groups that were there and compare with the other Civil War data you have on a particular person. There were many and I mean many Civil War Hospitals in Albem. Co. There were two that I know of in White Hall. The house that Ambrose Maupin built in 1801 that is located next to Wyants Store in White Hall is one. John Ballard, famous still operator, also had one up in Sugar Hollow. They treated soldiers from both sides I was told. Also Wyants store was a "mustering in location". Obits on microfilm. Now that you find your ancestor on the death records the next step is to get the Obit. The microfily at UVA is very complete. It begins abt. 1840 and comes right up to today with only a few gaps. The early newspapers were those send to James Madison, his name is written on them. Obits can be one line to many paragraphs. The time frame could be from one day to two weeks, after the death, so be patient. There is a "mustering roll book" at the Courthouse Record Room. Some of the deaths are listed by their names. Alderman Library has the full set of Civil War Books published there in VA. I have forgotten their names, but each book contains one Company, so you can guess how many of them their are. They are a small book but very complete, published I believe in Lynchburg. I have met a couple of the authors of various books. These books are great to use if you are doing "indepth research" on a particular person, but remember there are errors. Mispelled names, places, etc. and many men served for more than one Company.
