He may have been the son of David Via but the age evidence is pretty convincing. His actual age is stated in his will, it's easy to figure out how old he was by looking at census records, too. BTW, he must have been quite a character. Several years after his wife died, he was married (by shotgun) to a much younger woman. (He was nearly 70, I think.) They had three small children, then she died and he was left, an old man, with three children under the age of ten. How do I know it was a shotgun wedding?
