Benjamin and his line were African Americans. According to Benjamin's Rev War pension record he was born free. As to Gideon Via - some researchers thought he was the son of John Via of Amherst County. He was not...he was the son of David & Frances Via. After David's death Frances married John Eddey. Gideon was born 25 Nov 1755 according to his Rev War pension record. He married Margaret __ Gideon served in the Rev War and was at Valley Forge as well as other places.
