And on receipts where he did work for Dr. Jesse Garth the name is listed as William W. Via. I've seen it before where they switch from using their first to using their middle name. Don't know why but it seems to be somewhat common. Here's the type of work he did for Dr. Garth: According to papers found in the Garth family papers collection at William and Mary, William W. Via apparently did some work for Dr. Jesse Garth in the early 1850's. The list of services performed include everything from mending chains to making wood wedges and making shoes. " Received payment in July of the above this 15 of March 1850" William W.
