Via, 92, of Martinsville, died Saturday, September 25, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born August 8, 1907 and was a daughter of the late Charles Olando and Sallie Milton Padgett Hanby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Woodson Via; and two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Williams and Mrs. Taft Carter. She was a graduate of Ferrum College, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Martinsville. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Eastern Star. Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Evans of Hickory, N.C., Joyce Anderson of Port Townsend, Wash., and Louise Burch of Fredericksburg; one son, Charles W. Via of Richmond; three sisters, Jessie Key of Martinsville and formerly of Stuart, Mary Lou Elkins and Annie Lee Ferrell, both of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church in Martinsville with the Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park. Pallbearers were Taft Carter Jr., Stuart Ferrell, Duke Ferrell, Michael Tuccori, Edwin Via, Clarence Key, Tom Millehan and Paige Holder. Arrangements were by Norris Funeral Services.
