Janelle and Enda-- Dr. Socrates Maupin was my 4th great uncle. His nephew Charles Smith Maupin (son of Dr. William Amos Maupin, MD) became the ward of his grandfather, Chapman White Maupin when his father died. (Chas Smith Maupin was my ggrandfather).So he grew up from the age of three living w/his grandfather Chapman White Maupin. Chapman White Maupin was the grandson of William Amos Via (whom people are always referring to as Amor). Charles Smith Maupin's parents refer to Chapman White Maupin's grandfather as William Amos Via--NOT Amer/Amor Via. Notice too that Chapman White Maupin named one of his sons, the brother of Socrates, William Amos Maupin (he's my direct lineal ancestor). I have furnished a copy of these family papers prepared by Charles Smith Maupin and one of his sons, Dr. Albert Maupin, DDS, to William Albertson. These papers also give the death date of Margaret (Peggy) Via. For what it's worth, I believe the correct name is NOT Amor/Amer Via, but William Amos Via. Denise Maupin Watson Alexandria, VA
