Betty Lee Viars Fitzgerald, 69, of 3197 Amostown Road, Sandy Ridge, N.C., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at her home. She was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Montgomery County to James Edward Viars and Dora Gravely Viars. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmett Viars, George Viars, Elmer "Whitey" Viars; and a grandson, Eric Fitzgerald. She was a homemaker and a member of Life Tabernacle Church in Stuart. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Rev. Harold Fitzgerald of the home; a daughter, Carolyn Fitzgerald Craig of Stoneville, N.C.; three sons, Richard Fitzgerald of Stuart, Carlton Fitzgerald of Martinsville; Billy "Peanut" Fitzgerald of Sandy Ridge; three sisters, Gladys DeHart of Bassett, Dorothy Galimore of Draper and Josie Nester of Ridgeway; a brother, Herbie Viars of Ridgeway; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Funeral Services Chapel in Ridgeway with the Revs. Sam Kinzer and Ray Fields officiating. Burial will be at Rock Creek Church Cemetery in Independence. The family will receive friends at Community Funeral Services from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at the home in Sandy Ridge.
