    1. Harrison and Edward Via
    2. Judy, I can't imagine why Edward and Harrison were listed in the 1860 Albemarle County Census in household of James H. Via (I don't know James H. or his parents of Hanover). Perhaps they were there hoping to find more opportunities than there were in Hanover. I had wondered why they were not listed in their Mother's household (Louisiana Via whose deceased husband was Carter Via) in Hanover, but it never occured to me to look in Albemarle. They were back in Hanover by 1861, as they both joined the 56th Virginia Infantry in Hanover when the Civil War commenced and fought with the 56th during the entire war. They were wounded and captured several times but survived and returned to Hanover where they married. Harrison was a farmer and Edward was a wheelwright. Harrison's wife was Mildred Hare from Pennsylvania, and as was noted in last Digest, Edward married Martha Ann Elizabeth Wood. Edward was a resident of Hanover the remainder of his life and is buried with wife in the Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in the far southeastern section of the county, not far from the land on which he was born. I do not know when Harrison left Hanover but he and Edward are both listed in the 1880 Census of Hanover. Their Mother died about 1872. My great grandfather, Andrew Jackson Via, their brother, left Hanover shortly after the Mother died. Janelle Via McKown
