He was born Dec. 16, 1948, in Henry County, to Garnett Via Sr. and Annie Gravely Via, both deceased. Via was an Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Williamson Via of the home; one daughter, Sheldon Lynette Via of Bassett; two sisters, Gloria Manns Moore and Barbara Jamison, both of Bassett; one brother, Garnett Via Jr. of Fieldale; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, with Bishop Phillip Calloway officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Hines Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
