Via, 88 Rufus Lee Via, 88, of Sterling, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at the home of his daughter in Ashburn. Mr. Via was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Sugar Hollow, Albemarle County, and was a son of the late William King (Shake) Via and Cora Belle (Harris) Via. He was a veteran of World War II and participated in the invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, France in 1944. He was employed at Costco Wholesale of Sterling at the time of his recent illness and death. He enjoyed bowling and fishing and participated in many fishing tournaments. In 1946, he married Phyllis Taylor. In 1956, he married Kitty Marie Williams of Grottoes, who preceded him in death in 1996. Survivors include three children, Robert K. Via of Altamonte Spring, Fla., Ellen Marie Via McLean of Ashburn and Timothy Earl Via of Winter Park, Fla.; four brothers, Arnold L. Via and Herbert H. Via of Harriston, Curtis R. Via of Westminster, Md., and Chester M. Via of Midlothian; three sisters, Alice Via Garrison of Baltimore, Md., Shelley Via Smulsky of Waynesboro and Hessie Via Dailey of Mount Vernon, Ohio; five granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg.
