WAYNESBORO --- Emma Jane Wright Via, 90, formerly of Rt. 6, Box 123 died on Friday night (Dec. 25, 1998) at Augusta Medical Center. She was born Jan. 4, 1908 at Augusta County, daughter of William Garnett and Susan (Hoy) Wright. She was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and a retired nurse at Waynesboro Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Burl Tandy Via on March 16, 1994; one daughter, Betty Jane Via; four sisters, Mae Campbell, Addie Short, Ruth Whitmore and Beulah Via; six brothers, John, Wilmer, Floyd, Leonard, Steward and Chris Wright. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law. Burl James Via of Richmond, and Theron W. and Patricia Via of Fishersville; two daughters and sons-in-law, F. Louise and Charles Kirk, and Violet V. and John Burkholder of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Davis S. Via, Ivan S. Via, Daniel Cline, Deborah Cale and Dennis Coffey; eight great-grandchildren, Caleb Cline, Laurel Cline, Ryan Cale, Joshua Cale, Dillon Via, Devon Via, Barrett Coffey and Aaron Coffey; step grandchildren, Tonna and Todd Burkholder; and nieces and nephews. A service will be 2 p.m. on Monday at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren with Todd Hammond and the Rev. Earl Hammer presiding. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Danny Cline, Caleb Cline, David Via, Ivan Via, Dennis Coffey and Rob Cale. Honorary pallbearers will be Humes Franklin Jr., Gordon Pondexter, Lynn Wease, J.B. Yount, Ernest Claytor, Vernon Estes, Harold Henkel and her nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro and other times at the residence of her children.
