    1. DNA Family Tree for Via, Viar, Viars, Vier, Viers, Vice etc.
    2. Elaine
    3. I just wanted to let everyone know that I just became a Group Administor for the Via Surname Project for the Family Tree DNA. I have been reading about the Family Tree DNA for about two years or more. And I thought is was time for the Via's to get in the Project. So I volunteer for the job. It is for ALL the different spellings of Via, we are ALL on the same family tree. Now we can prove it with DNA! Here is the website address: http://www.familytreedna.com/ Please, check it out when you have time. Their is a lot of information on this site. I really liked the part of the Testimonials which is on top of the home page. You can Click on Testimonials and read them, then you can Click on Surname Video which is on the right side of the page. It is in 4 parts, I have watch it three times now and I'm sure I will watch it again. It talks about how DNA can help us on our family tree. If you go back to the home page, you will see (Over 2,000 Surname Projects) If you Click on that, you will see V27, that means 27 Surname Projects has been started with the letter V. When you Click on V27, you will see surnames starting with V. If you Click on Via, then you will see the START of the Via Surname Project. And you can Click on the My Website too, http://www.familytreedna.com/ But, please remember I just started this Project 4 days ago, so I don't have much there yet! My brother is the FIRST to order his DNA test for the Via family tree. I think it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to get the results. So, I just have one member as of today. But, don't be like me and take two years or more to join. And for the female who are Via's like me, you will need a male family member to join, to get the Via Y-DNA that is pass from father to son, so please ask a brother, father, uncle or cousin to represent your family line. I did. If you have ANY questions just email me at ElaineVia@comcast.net and I'll do my best to answer them. Elaine =^..^=_

    3. Thanks to all who have responded. I appreciate it very much. I wasn't aware of the book, nor a possible Maupin connection, until today. I'm sure our little library doesn't have a copy but they might find a copy to ILL. Also, there is a copy in the DAR Library and I can get my chapter Genie to check it for me when she goes to DC in October to work on supplementals. This is great - not only a new surname and a possible one to work on - but also two possible new patriots! 1. Eliza Jane Via, Albemarle, VA, ca1825
    2. Janet
    3. Good afternoon, all, Thanks to Elaine Via's wonderful help, I have recently found my grandmother's grandmother, Eliza Jane Via. My line is: Janet Medlock Cook > Ray Kennard Medlock > Nettie Jane Sampson > Susan Elizabeth Humphrey > Eliza Jane Via > William Via. Nettie Jane wound up in Saline County, Arkansas where she died in 1915. She had married a Saline Countian in Augusta County, Virginia and they moved to her husband's home in Alexander, Saline Co., AR by 1900. She married my grandfather, Robert Newton Medlock, in 1903. Susan Humphrey married Layton Sampson, 1867, Augusta Co., VA. The license gives her parents names. Eliza Jane Via married George Washington Humphrey in Albemarle Co., VA in 1843. Eliza's & George's marriage license gives William Via as her father but doesn't give her mother's name. The witnesses were William A. Via and Elizabeth P. Via. Having just started working on this line, I haven't been to a good research center to see what I might find. However, having searched the Internet and the databases I subscribe to, I have not found just which William is her father. Now that my lineage is out of the way, I'll ask my question: Does anyone have a list of William Via's & Nancy Maupin's children? The William Via, Sr. in the 1840 Albemarle census seems to be the most likely candidate for Eliza Jane's father since it shows a female 15-20 and the 1830 shows William Via, Jr. with a female 5-9. This William fits the birth dates stated in WFT for William, son of Wm Via & Mary Craig. IF this is Eliza Jane's father, the witness to Eliza's marriage could have been her brother, William A. Via. There are 5 children in the 1830 census and 7 in the 1840 census so not all are listed in WFT. The FHC I have access to is closed for vacation and I feel like the Mervin's ad where the woman is pressed against the door saying "Open, open, open". Thank you for reading this far, Janet Cook
