Jeannie; Do you live in Pottsboro? These names did not ring a bell with me so I checked the phone book and the first name was Jeannie Via. I knew there were Via and Viar names in the county but none of them are related to my family. There is a Billy Vier from Pottsboro area who is a 2nd cousin. He has a church near the lake on 120. I have 3 grand children going to Pottsboro Schools. Do I have the right Jeannie?? Elaine, Buddy & Others: Would you happen to know John Via/Viar/Viers from Amherst father? Would it be Mathew or maybe Mathew is the brother?? Would be interested in talking with anyone from this Amherst line as one branch of my Via's are from there too. Brenda Clark Charlottesville, VA

Good evening everyone, Here I am again, asking for more help. Unfortunately, the microfilmed records from Albemarle Co. that I've rented through the FHC have yielded no new clues on my VIA line. If anyone has the following book, would you mind taking a look to see what the source is for William Via and Nancy R. Maupin's son, William A.? _Micajah Via, Sr., of Albemarle and his Decendants_ by Judy Maupin Pons, 1999 by Judy Maupin Pons, (located at VA Historical Society, Richmond, VA) Thanks, Janet Cook
Hi everyone, I am glad to say we have a NEW member in our Via Surname Project, Buddy Viers. Welcome Buddy, his family line is also of John Via b, 1710 of Amherst, Virginia. We also got another DNA results back last night. It is getting very interesting to see all the results. Kit # 42406 doesn't match the rest of the Via's either. The MORE family lines we can get in the Project, the more we might understand the results and how all the family lines might connect. Please check out the website to see the DNA results! They are at the bottom of the page. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ViaSurnameProject/ Elaine =^..^=

Dear Penny, I e-mailed you, but got a message that you are not accepting mail from me (sissyb@rev.net). Let me know when it's "fixed" and I will re-sent. Thanks. Sandy
Penny, That is the same thing that happen to me when I tried to answer your email the other day. For some reason, your email is not receiving other people's emails? That is what I tried to tell you the other day. But, I didn't explain myself good enough. So you couldn't get any of my emails about the notebook. Hi, I'm a newcomer to the Via group and am enjoying learning about my descendants via a kind and helpful member. I have a copy of an old photograph of my great-grandparents, Peter Lee Via (Fleming Via, William M. Via, Robert Via II, Robert Via I, Amos Via) and wife Elizabeth Dicey King, which was taken when they were young. I would be happy to e-mail a copy to anyone who might be interested. Just send me your home e-mail address. Thanks. Sandy sissyb@rev.net
_DNA Testing 101 - Ancestry DNA Tests for Genealogists_ (http://genealogy.about.com/cs/geneticgenealogy/a/dna_tests.htm) I thought I would post the above web page. It explains how the DNA testing works and what we can except to learn from it. It's about 4 pages long. As a caution, remember that mistakes can be made in DNA testing. The more male Via's that get involved with the testing the better results we can expect. From recent testing it appears as though the Via line from Amherst is not related to the Albemarle County Via's. Before I am convinced that there is no connection I'd like to see the results from others from that line and not base findings on one DNA sample. Elaine has done a great job with this project. I think she will tell you that when she refers to Kit # she is protecting the individual and their identity. It's better to error on the side of caution. It's a tough task to provide us with the information learned by DNA testing and still protect a persons privacy. I'd love to see some more test results from the Amherst line and test results from the Maryland Viers. Any volunteers?? As a group I'm sure we will learn more about DNA in the coming months. Judy
Judy: I will be happy to volunteer for the test. I truly believe I am from the Amherst/Nelson County Via line. Elanie, would you furnish me with a kit and I will pay for it. Hi everyone, We have been getting some DNA results back on a few of our members of the Via Surname Project. Please, check them out. I know it is HARD to understand all the numbers. But the more members who have the SAME numbers, the more closely they are related. I won't be using names, just Kit numbers. If you have any questions on a Kit number, just email me at MY email address, ElaineVia@comcast.net and I will try my best to answer them. Kit # 41313 & # 41120 are the closest related. Then comes Kit #N6276. Kit # 2087 is not related to any of these Via's who are in the Project right now. Which is very interesting because, his 5th great grandfather is a Via born about 1710. We were hoping to get his line connected to Amer Via. He is having more Markers done, so that might help us later. The reason Kit #N6276 has more numbers in the results because, he has gotten more Markers done on his line and has gotten the results of them. DNA Test Results (mtDNA) for Project Members is on their Mother's side of the family, NOT their Father's side of the family. Please check out the results, they will be on the bottom of the page: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ViaSurnameProject/ Also, you can check out the Family Tree DNA website, and read little about how to understand the results. http://www.familytreedna.com/ Have FUN! Elaine =^..^=
Penny, I have emailed you 4 times and they keep coming back to me. Please email me at MY email address. So we can talk about the notebook. Or else you are OUT of luck. ElaineVia@comcast.net Thanks, Elaine =^..^=
