Thanks Buddy. If I am reading this correctly, it looks like the website compiler has confused the David Via who marr Frances Stringer with the David Via who was son of John Via. I see this happen quite often in families. Appreciate your help. We had four members who got their 25 Marker Test results in today. And five are still waiting for their results. If you check the Y- Results on our website, http://www.familytreedna.com/(bu1qn43hk0l3ftu2lglupp45)/public/ViaSurnameProject/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on you will see most of them match pretty close to each other. I am going to give you the Distance in Markers with my brother to the other members who have gotten their results from their 25 Marker Test. I am picking on my brother because, he was the first member in our project and he doesn't care if I use his name and Kit # together. My brother's name is Eugene and his Kit number is 41120. 25 Marker Test Results: Kit # Distance 41915 0 ( Exact Match with my brother, all 25 markers) 51699 0 " N20364 0 " 41313 1 (One marker off) 43157 1 " 43766 1 " 45276 1 " N6276 1 " 45239 2 (Two markers off) 46438 29 (29 markers off) The Family Tree DNA divides markers up, that is why it is more than 25 markers off) 42087 30 (30 markers off) " I have gotten some emails saying they don't understand all this DNA talk. Rae Jean, In looking at that web site it looks to me like they are saying David was the son of John Via and Mary Powhatan. My only thoughts are: I don't know of any documentation that places David Via who married Frances Stringer in any Via line yet. I show six known children for David Via and Frances Stringer: William, Gideon, David, Elizabeth, Mildred and Robert. The web site you cited has the same with the exception of Reuben in place of Robert. The court records of Augusta clearly show the names I provided as children of David and/or Frances Via. It is interesting to see Reuben placed as another child. The only mention I've seen of a Reuben in that time era was in relation to service in the Rev War. If Reuben belongs in this line he was old enough at the time of David's death that he was not bound out as were the other children. I also noticed this same site has Margaret Peggy Via, daughter of Amer Via and Margaret "Elizabeth" Spencer as marrying Thomas Crease. TOTALLY INACCURATE!! The best statement I can make at this time in regards to this information is "keep on searching." Judy
Thanks Judy. I missed the generation of John Via in my first message and tried to correct the mistake but you were too quick for me. (grin) Appreciate your comments and will continue to look for documentation addressing the parents of David Via. Just found the surname and parents of a female ancestor in North Carolina after over 15 years of searching so there is hope. That will keep me going for awhile.... as if I needed a reason to continue this fascinating pursuit. (grin) Appreciate your help. One of our new members Kit 56051 got his 12 marker test results back today. He had an Exact 12 marker match with Kit 46438. They are 2nd cousins. Their common ancestors are George Washington Via & Mariah Elizabeth Chaney They have the SAME great grandfather, George Washington Via born 29 Feb 1851 Patrick, Virginia died 29 Sep 1939 Berkeley, West Virginia. Kit 56051 also had a distance of 3 markers with Kit 42087. They are 7th cousins. Their common ancestor is William Via Sr. born abt. 1697 New Kent, Virginia died 8 May 1783 Albemarle, Virginia. Kit 56051 has not sent me his pedigree. So I haven't put it on the website yet. I have known to make mistakes, so I am waiting for Mr. Via to send me his pedigree before I put it on the website. These results we got today is VERY important. Kit 56051 has matched two of our members who have the most distance with their DNA with the other members in our group. So, their DNA is telling us they are on the Via family tree, BUT a different branch from the others members in our project. That is why we need more members in our group. The more members we have, the more branches we will find on the Via Family Tree. Once we have the branches, the DNA will also give us the twigs on the family tree. Please join our group and add your family branch to the Via family tree. Please, check out our results on the Y-DNA Via Surname Project. http://www.familytreedna.com/(fd31yu45wrgcwj45tyxql2fv)/public/ViaSurnameProject/index.aspx If you have any questions just email me. Hi everyone, We are still getting great results. Kit 52700 had an Exact 12 marker match with Kit 41313. They are 2nd cousins 1 time removed. Their common ancestors are Benjamin Franklin Via & Virginia Garland McAlpin. I hope when the DNA Family Tree emails our members, telling them that they have match someone in our group. That the members will email each other and make a friend. After all, you have something very special with each other, your DNA. We had 6 members who order their 37 Marker test today. So, in about 3 weeks we will have LOTS of very interesting results to looks forward to. I can't wait! As of last week the members can go to a 59 Marker DNA test. We have two members who have order their 59 Marker test. These new 22 Markers for our Y-DNA test will provide additional resolution and especially benefit individuals in our Surname Project. The additional Markers may indicate the branches of family tree, and will reduce the time frame of the common ancestor, or resolving matches with other surnames. Which would help those with a brick wall on their family line. Please check out our results and tell other Via's about our Surname Project. I would LOVE to have more different spellings on the Via surname in our group. http://www.familytreedna.com/(fhfdrdmccth113iryu5grs45)/public/ViaSurnameProject/index.aspx Sincerely, Elaine =^..^=

Our member, Kit 51699 had an Exact 37 marker match with Kit 41120. We are really getting some good results with our Y-DNA Via Surname Project. These members are 4th cousins 2 times removed to each other. Their common ancestor is William Via born abt. 1761 Albemarle, Virginia died 27 June 1836 Albemarle, Virginia. William is the son of Micajah Via and Micajah is the son of William Via Sr. and William is the son of Amer Via. We have 4 NEW members, but I don't have their Pedigree charts yet. When I get them, I will put them on our website. Welcome to the group guys. The Family Tree DNA has launched the hightest resolution Y-DNA test in the market: the 59-marker Y-DNA test. Here is their website talking about the 59 marker Y-DNA test. It talks about Understanding MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor) http://www.ftdna.com/faq2.html The more markers you have tested, the closer you can tell your relationship to a person with your surname! This is Great, if you have hit a wall on your family line. Please check out our results, http://www.familytreedna.com/(rht04tmm30gfwb55jje5ro45)/public/ViaSurnameProject/index.aspx Thanks Elaine =^..^=
I have a nice picture of Mary Emma Virginia Viers and her husband James "Riley" Roland. I believe Emma's family line is; Boyd Vires - Samuel Viers - Micajah "Cajer" Via - William Via Jr. - William Via Sr. - Amos "Amer" Via. I also have a picture of James "Jim" Wilbert Viars and one of his wife - Rosetta Peak. I believe James family line is; Sparrel P. Viars - Peter Via - Josias Via - David Via Sr. - John Via. If anyone wants a copy of these pictures, just email me. ElaineVia@comcast.net I want to say thanks to Jim Knight & Betty J., for sharing these pictures with us. Elaine =^..^=
