We have some new DNA results in, first - Kit 42406 & Kit 57338 had an Exact 12 Marker Matches. This is very important because they are the ONLY members we have so far, that are Descendants of Robert Via, the son of Amer Via. The rest of the members in our Via Surname Project has a great Genetic Distance from these two members and that makes it very interesting. I am trying to find more Via's that Descends from Robert Via to join our Project, but it is not an easy job. I will keep trying, I won't give up! Kit 43766 & Kit 45276 had an Exact 37 Marker Matches. The paper tail says they are 4th cousins. Their common ancestor is Josias Via. Kit 43838 & Kit 41120 and Kit 51699 had an Exact 37 Marker Matches too. Kit 43838 & Kit 41120 are 4th cousins 2 times removed. Their common ancestors are William Via & Mary Craig. Both Kit 43838 & 41120 has done their 67 Marker test. Kit 41120 got his results today. We have 5 members in our Project that has done their 67 Marker test. We will have to wait and see what the results will be with our members. It should be VERY interesting to see the results with some many Markers to compare with each other. We have one NEW member, but I don't have his family line yet, when I get it, I will put it on the website. Please check out our results on our website, and join the FUN! You just might get some GREAT results too and help another Via at the same time. http://www.familytreedna.com/(xzh03455hn5lk0v3w5wbe3as)/public/ViaSurnameProject/index.aspx Sincerely, Elaine =^..^=

Hello everyone, I would like to study the Hanover County Via's and see if we can straighten out some of the descending lines. I'm not sure how to go about this so I am soliciting input from our group. One idea is to form a "sub-group" of 5 to 8 members who have the time, resource availability, etc to spend on this project. We would post our progress and findings to the group as we went along. Other ideas please? Anyone interested in helping with this project? Judy

Good Evening Group!! Earl, you are correct. Looked at a copy of Chapman White's will. If you are interested Archilles Garrison married Ann Jones daughter of Mosias Jones and Ann's brother John Jones remained in Albemarle Co. and died leaving a son Mosias Jones who has descendants in Albemarle County to this day. Chapman White was named for his grandmother who was Susannah Chapman, his grandfather was William White. The name Chapman came down the Maupin line on the William and Mildred Chapman White Maupin line. Apparently there were other White family members of this Susannah Chapman line that were married into the Garrisons. Was Zachariah Garrison a brother to Archilles Garrison William ----- Original Message ----- From: "Earl Marshall" <pre1800vias@yahoo.com> To: <VIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 19, 2006 7:46 PM Subject: Re: [VIA-L] Angeline E. William, I am not sure what new evidence you have uncovered, but I have actually held and read the hand-written note of Zachariah Garrison granting permission for his daughter to marry Samuel Harris. Just to make sure my hand-written notes were not in error I went back to the standard "green marriage books" for Albemarle Co. and they confirm my own notes as follows: HARRIS, Samuel & Catherine Garrison 24 Oct l8l8; [Marr. Reg., l860-1868, fol. 23] b-Achilles Garrison wit- William Wertenbaker d- Zachariah Garrison, who gives his consent s- Wiley Harris, who gives his consent wit- Blake Harris & Achilles Garrison [B/C Papers, 1818-24] The abbreviations are: b- bondsman d- daughter of s- son of wit- witness Other evidence has indicated that Catherine's middle name was White, but I have never been able to tie any of her ancestry into the actual White family.
