    3. Thanks Elaine. I have sent this on to my 82 year old father. He remembers his grandfather Thomas, Oscar's older brother. Thomas left quite an impression on Dad. Thomas bought my father his first suit, gave him the first Coke he ever drank, taught him the fundamentals of woodworking, and taught Dad the importance of truthfulness. Apparently Dad was Thomas's shadow. -----Original Message----- From: Elaine [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 7:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [VIA-L] Oscar N. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WVUBAEB/115.118 Message Board Post: I am looking for a Mary Via that married a Fain. Mary had a daughter named Martha Ann Fain born in TX (?) who married James Joseph Bettes from TX who had a daughter Bessie Irene Bettes b. 3/24/1894 in OK - who probably had more brother and sisters. Could you be talking about the same Mary Via? Also the possiblity of Native American Ancestry is supposedly due to the Via side of the family. Help?

    1. [VIA-L] Via's of Patrick County
    2. I am forwarding this for Tangela at [email protected] Judy Hi, My name is Tangela Jackson Holcomb. My grandmother was Mary Lee Via b. 2 May 1898 (Patrick Co. VA). I recently began researching my family history. I have a two handwritten family history sheets from my grandmother. One was compiled by O.E. Pilson of Patrick Co. Va. This is the way my tree goes: * ? Robert Via b. about 1750 - m. Frances Ann Ingram b. about 1750 (This one wasn't on my grandmother's records - not sure if it is correct) * William Via b. 13 apr 1779, d. 21 Feb 1839 - m. Sarah Elizabeth Ingram b. 11 Apr 1787, d. Apr 1842 * Fleming Via b. 14 Jun 1808, d. 25 Jun 1893 - m. Mary "Polly" Corn b. 4 May 1812, d. 20 Nov 1896 * James Robert Via b. 19 May 1840, d. 24 Jul 1915 - m. Martha Catherine Koger b. 30 may 1845, d. 6 Sep 1918 * John Peter Via b. 29 Jun 1871, d. 10 Jun 1949 - m. Ida Lee Atkinson b. 25 Aug 1873, d. 10 Jun 1949 * Mary Lee Via b. 2 May 1898, d. 8 Mar 1986 - m. Wesley Fox Jackson b. 24 Oct 1894, d. 23 Aug 1959 * Otis Wesley Jackson b. 1 Sep 1932, d. 8 Dec 2001 - m. Sue Marie Hardy, living * Tangela Annette Jackson b. 4 May 1961 - m. John Pritchett Holcomb I would like to tie my tree into the early Via's (Amer and Margaret), but am not quite sure how. I would appreciate any information you can give to me. Perhaps of interest, John Peter Via's grandson, J.P. Via (son of Elijah) still lives on the family orchard in Patrick County and still raises apples, peaches, etc. I live in Reidsville, NC just across the Virginia line. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Tangela

Jewell and Edna, Thank you both for the birthday wishes. They spoil me at work. They decorated my office and had a cake. Some of the ladies took me to lunch. Being a down home girl I had stew and it was great - even had a big roll. My daughter sent me some hair curlers and flowers. Haven't seen what my husband got me yet. But all in all it was a really good day. There's something to getting older - people tend to spoil us more so I'll just sit back and enjoy it. Thanks again and hope is well with everyone. Judy
