Hi, I just wanted to let the group know, I put my Via Family Tree on the RootsWeb site. It has 21,439 individuals. A lot of Via's, but also Harris, Sipes, Shifflett, Sandridge, Marshall and many more. ENJOY!! Elaine =^..^=
It seems we can now put the parentage of Menoah Via to rest.... Our previous records gave his parents as Ira & A. Via. We (shame on us) assumed this was Ira and Amanda. But Menoah lived with Ira's 1st wife according to a census record. So the controversy began. Anyway, in looking at the Albemarle Death records William told us about the entry for Menoah reads: 18 Via M G April-1864 Albemarle dysentary 23 yrs Ira & S A Via Albemarle W J Points physician The death record that gave the parents as Ira and A. Via....the A could have been for Ann since Sarah's name was Sarah Ann. Documentation now places Menoah Via as the son of Sarah Ann Sandridge and Ira H. Via. Judy

Good Evening, Judy and Group!!! Did you know that Roland and apparently several members of his family went to Sumner Co. Tn abt 1817? Working on them now. William
Hi Jeff, could you please send me a copy. Leon
Good Evening, Group!!! There were more death records available at the courthouse in Charlottesville. These start at 1853 I believe. They are hard to read, but if we could get the roll of microfilm on inter-library loan we could copy the. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID. I wanted a roll of microfilm that contained church records of a church that was in the White Hall area 1770-1812. I ordered the film on the phone they told me and the librarian that there was no charge. When we got them it cost me $25. UVA is a big RIP OFF. What was worse, I have a card with them with over $70 on it and they refused to let me use it. Virginia State Library would be a better place to check with. But stay away from UVA. I've copied the information down into a 134 page Microsoft Word document. If anyone wants a copy please email me. Due to the size its not recommended sending through VIA-L Rootsweb. Jeff Via [email protected]

But I can tell you that most of Benjamin Bond Burnett and Isabell Horsley's children migrated to Madison Co., Kentucky. Roland Burnett died there in 1790. Roland, Micajah, Zachariah, William, and Bond Burnett all went to Madison Co., Kentucky after 1785. Judy

Good Afternoon, [email protected]!! I question the accuracy of the Civil War Reported Deaths. If they were killed in Battle I am sure it was not in Albem. County. I would suggest you take the date and go to the "War of the Rebellion" and locate the battle that took place on that date. Then check the groups that were there and compare with the other Civil War data you have on a particular person. There were many and I mean many Civil War Hospitals in Albem. Co. There were two that I know of in White Hall. The house that Ambrose Maupin built in 1801 that is located next to Wyants Store in White Hall is one. John Ballard, famous still operator, also had one up in Sugar Hollow. They treated soldiers from both sides I was told. Also Wyants store was a "mustering in location". Obits on microfilm. Now that you find your ancestor on the death records the next step is to get the Obit. The microfily at UVA is very complete. It begins abt. 1840 and comes right up to today with only a few gaps. The early newspapers were those send to James Madison, his name is written on them. Obits can be one line to many paragraphs. The time frame could be from one day to two weeks, after the death, so be patient. There is a "mustering roll book" at the Courthouse Record Room. Some of the deaths are listed by their names. Alderman Library has the full set of Civil War Books published there in VA. I have forgotten their names, but each book contains one Company, so you can guess how many of them their are. They are a small book but very complete, published I believe in Lynchburg. I have met a couple of the authors of various books. These books are great to use if you are doing "indepth research" on a particular person, but remember there are errors. Mispelled names, places, etc. and many men served for more than one Company. William
Goof again. Remove the extra "r" in Albemarle. I have a small moniter and the "N' and "r" and "M' are hard to read. They married abt. 1781 in Albe. Co. She was the daughter of Daniel Maupin, III. This family moved to Madison Co. Could be a clue. William, I am still having some kind of trouble. When I click on the web site, it says: The page cannot be found. Elaine =^..^= > > Http://image.VTLS.com/chris/MARC/DRIP/Albemarle/Albermarle.clean
