They were in different parts of Virginia and their presence in those areas supported by other evidence such as Land Tax records or personal property records. When it comes to the David's it isn't as clear to me. I think David, son of John served as follows: David Via served in Captain William Tucker's company of Militia of Amherst Co., Virginia January 14, 1781. Discharged March - served 72 days. I also believe the David who served in the 8th Cont line was brother to Gideon of Gallia Co., Ohio. I don't have my notes in front of me but if I remember it correctly the 8th was Stephenson's command and at times David Laird's command. And since David was bound out to a David Laird it would make sense he would serve in his command. Judy

No success but a lot of suspicions. The two lines, Maryland and Virginia, arrived in America very close to each other. One of the line married into the Moon line in Amherst Co. and moved to Ky, along with one of his brothers who was the first schoolteacher in Lewis County where my VIERS ancester settled. There still is no firm connection between my ancester and either group, except his rather rare first name (Robert) and the Horsleys buried in the family plot. > > It appears as though some of Daniel's granchildren went to Ohio. In fact, one of them is mentioned in his will as 'gone to Kentucky. Another son married a Patsey Moon and settled on land awarded to her father for his Revolutionary War service. I still don't know for sure who the parents of David Via were. Here's some of what I have on this line. David Via married Frances Stringer. No marriage record found but from deeds this marriage can be proven. 7 March 1752 David's land was processioned in Louisa County. Neighbors were Alexander Freeman, Samuel Thomerson, Edmund Stringer and Nicholas Gentry. 28 Oct 1752 Edward Stringer of Fredericksville Parish Louisa Co. sold to David Via and Frances Stringer, his wife and daughter of Edward Stringer, for paternal affection, 75 acres of land on both sides of Goldmine Creek. 23 July 1755 David's land was processioned in Louisa County. 5 May 1758 Edmund Stringer and Susanna his wife sold to David Via for 60 pounds 124 acres on Goldmine Creek in Louisa County 3 Dec 1759 David's land was processioned in Louisa County. 25 Nov 1760 David served on a Grand Jury: A Grand jury being this day impannelled the Court appointed John Micky Foreman who was Sworn and then the rest of the Jury to Wit Robt Embry, Henry Ford, Bicknal Alverson, Wm. Johnson, Will. Hendrick, Stepn Bourn, Jno Freeman, Jno Gilbert, Willm White, Wm Robinson & Hez Rice, Edmd Stringer, David Via, Richd Cory, Alex Freeman & Philip Thurman & having recd their Charge withdrew and made a Presentmt and were discharged. Aug 25, 1761 Edward Stringer and wife Judith, Edmund Stringer and Susanna his wife, David Via and Frances his wife sold to Phillip Day 109 acres on both sides of the south branch of Gold Mine creek. 27 Oct 1761 David Via and wife Frances sold to Nicholas Gentry Jr., 124 acres of land on Gold Mine creek 9 July 1766 in Augusta County, David Via wrote his will: I Bequeath my worldly Estate Francis Viars I Bequeath unto my Well beloved wife whom I appoint my full and Sole Exectrix one Negroe Girl Daphine to one bond Due from John Lancaster which I allow to Pay my Debts which bond being Lost to one Note of hand due from Henry Harriss which I allow to my Creditors which note being lost for Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand this 9th Day of July 1766. The Line here is, I beleive: William Amer Via Robert Via Gideon Via David Via & Frances Springer Two of their children, so far as I have gone, were in Gallia Co. Ohio in 1820, David and Gideon. Gideon Viers was easy to locate but I found that I had too many Vier/Via marriages in that County to have come from one family. Upon checking further I found David Vier also living in the same area. The census records are hard to read for 1820 and the spelling varies. Still checking for their other two brothers William and Robert. After I do the 1850 Census I will be able to tell if I have any leftover, Viers/Via who do not belong to Gideon or David. If this is anyone's lines please respond with comments or suggestions. 2. Does anyone have any information on James Roland Viar? I have him listed as the son of David Via and Eliza Walton. I do not know who the parents of David Via were. David was in Appomattox County in census records through 1880. With the middle name of Roland it's possible this line might go back to Rowland Via and Nancy Sneed. I found James' middle name of Roland on-line at the Library of Virginia's Bible records section. He is listed in the Elam family Bible. This Bible was owned by Robert J. Goodman, a farmer near "Spout Springs, Virginia??" How James Roland Via is related is not clear. In 1920 Appomattox Co., Virginia census James Roland Via was in the household of Robert J. Goodman.
