I recently acquired a newspaper from Oct. 29 of 1940 for Winston-Salem, NC that lists "draft serial numbers for every Winston-Salem and Forsyth [county] man between the ages of 21 and 35". "EVERY MAN SHOULD KNOW HIS NUMBER. THE ORDER IN WHICH THE NUMBERS ARE DRAWN IN THE NATIONAL LOTTERY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT WILL DETERMINE THE ORDER IN WHICH MEN IN EACH AREA WILL BE CALED BEFORE THEIR LOCAL BOARDS FOR CLASSIFICATION AND EITHER DEFERMANT OF MILITARY SERVICE."
