    1. [VESTAL-L] Vestal Family
    2. Ginny asked for reference citation that I thought John Vestal died about 1764. Here's what I have from Abstracts of Virginia's Northern Neck Warants & Surveys, 1697-1784, Vol IV (1987) compiled by Peggy Shomo Joyner: "William Vestal of Berkeley Co. heir of John Vestal, assignee of Capt. Thomas Speak(e), execr of Frederick Co. for whom survd; 3 Sept. 1764-23 Nov. 176_; 400 a. on Lt Cacapehon; adj. Speake's own 390 a.pat., Daniel McLoughling. CC- Daniel McLooughlin & William Bills. Surv. Richard Rigg." N.d.- John Vestal dying without will, deed to issue to his Son & Heir at Law reserving to Ann Vestal 1/3 during Life. and next comes: "William Vestal, heir of John Vestal, assignee of Capt. Thomas Speak, Execr of Frederick; 15 Jan. 1763-3 Feb. 1769; 400 a. on Lt. Cacapehon; adj. his own land, George Andrew's 271 a.pat. CC-Henry Enoch, William Bills. Pilot-Henry Enoch, Junr. Surv. Richard Rigg." The first date is the warrant and the second the survey. Upon rereading this I'm not sure what it really states, but apparently the warrants and surveys were conducted during these dates for John Vestal, rather than William, who was the assignee of Speake. There is no date of the records themselves or of the note at the bottom of the first. Other evidence, including Ginny's, leads me to think I was incorrect is believing John had died in 1764.
