Allen, My birth date for William is a guesstimate. He or a person with his same name received land (the exact same land with same description as when he sells it in 1748) in Orange County in 1734. I just figure he couldn't have been much younger than 20 when this happened so I subtracted to arrive at the date. Many folks say he was born in 1720, but I feel that was too young to have gotten land and to be on his own-he would have only been fourteen if he was born in 1720 like so many say-- and no other Jay appears to receive land in Virginia at that time period in Orange County or elsewhere in Virginia. This William had a son William born about 1744 or 1745, I forget which year exactly and a son named James b. 1744/1745 (I have the years of these two mixed up), a son named Joseph b. abt 1750, a son named John b. 1752 m. Elizabeth (Betty) Pugh, 3 daughters: Lydia, Rachel, and Mary and a last son, David b. abt. 1763/65.
