An act ratified on January 28, 1851, established officials and a court system for Yadkin County. Alfred W. Martin, William C. DeJournette, Solomon Vestal, John Shores, Sr., and Thomas Martin were appointed commissioners to select a location for a permanent county seat which should be laid out as a town. The courts were to be held at Dowelltown until a courthouse could be erected. ............ There is a section about the Vestal Family Origin by Eunice M. Vestal. Also The Vestal Family: Descendants of Daniel and Anna, The Joel Franklin Vestal Family, History of the Hampton Monroe Vestal Family, and Sanford and Lula Bovender Vestal Family.
