    2. Mary Roy Wilson
    3. Dear Fellow Searchers: I am searching for more members of my great grandfather Daniel Vestal Roy's family. He was born November 18, 1839 in Jackson Co., MO to Louis Roy and Charlotta Silvers. I have a lot of material on the Roy Family but very little on the Silvers. Louis and Charlotta were married January 9, 1834 in Jackson Co., MO. We think that Daniel's middle name Vestal was a family name in his mother's family, or friends of the family. If you have any of these names in your data bank I would appreciate any clue that you may have. I would be glad to share any that I have. Daniel came across the Oregon Trail in 1852 with his parents and settled in Washington Co, Oregon. Thanks for anything. MARY ROY WILSON maryroy@ix.netcom.com

    1. [VESTAL-L] David Vestal of Randolph County Indiana
    2. I'm hoping to find the parents of David Vestal who appeared in the 1830 Randolph County, Indiana Census. He was also mentioned in "History of Randolph County" as having been born in North Carolina and going to Randolph County in 1823, settling on Stony Creek two and a half miles south of Windsor. It was also stated that he left the county in 1831 and moved to White Lick, below Indianapolis. He and his wife had five children when they moved. I think he may be related to Julianna Vestal who married Jacob B. Coon (Kuhn) 11 April 1828 in nearby Delaware County. Can anyone help? Bob Foster

    2. This message is for Peggy Hill, but perhaps others are interested also. I finally got around to going through the info on your 10/29/98 message(Thanks for all of the goodies! I don't have a link yet, but I was able to link up some of my "misc" Vestals.) You showed John Vestal Sr/Elizabeth Fogelman with 1 child, Simpson F Vestal b. 8 june 1860. I'm guessing that the year's a typo. I have a bit of info on a Simpson F b. abt 1817 and his wife and kids. Is it safe to assume they're the same man? Also, I have some decendent information on David Vestal/Elizabeth Hodgin and Soloman Vestal/esther Hodgin. My info is strictly from someone else's charts, nothing I'm found myself. If you're interested, please let me know. I can't vouch for their accuracy. Thanks again for your info - better late than never! - SuEllyn

    1. [VESTAL-L] Virginia Marriage Index, 1740-1850
    2. FREE for ten days _____________ Virginia Marriage Index, 1740-1850 Throughout the 18th and well into the 19th Century, Virginia was one of the most populous states in the Union, being home to as many as 1.2 million persons at any one time. This collection of marriage records includes the names of over 300,000 men and women married in the state between 1740 and 1850. In addition to providing the names of bride and groom, researchers will find the date of marriage and county in which the ceremony was performed. For those seeking married ancestors from Virginia, this database can be a valuable source of information. Bibliography: Dodd, Jordan R, et. al. "Early American Marriages: Virginia." 1. [VESTAL-L] My David Vestal
    2. kris
    3. My g-g-grandfather was David Vestal, born April 5, 1821 in North Carolina. He moved to Missouri in the 1940's. There he married Jane Coyle, born Nov. 8, 1827 in Mo. I dont know who David's father was, but I think it was John Vestal, born 1787 who married Margaret (Mary) Huff. My David fits the right age of one of John's sons. Does anyone have information on my David and or John Vestal's children. I have collected as much info on all Vestals as I can, and want to collect more. Our family is like a giant jigsaw puzzle that I enjoy trying to piece together. I would be happy to share my descendancy with anyone interested. Thanks, Kris Davis

    2. If I understand the Julian versus Gregorian calendar correctly, the change in months from the example of July to September 1754 would no longer be applicable. The calendar changed in 1752 and after that, while the Quakers still numbered months, first month would no longer be March as in the old style calendar but January in accordance with the rest of the world. Hope that makes sense. DJ

    3. I don't have enough documentation yet, but my husband's direct gggggg grandparents were William VESTAL 11 (VESTALL/VASTALL) and Elizabeth MERCER. The Quaker calendar was different (refer to Quaker records)and the sixth month you say could be for Sep. (?) Supposedly some of the dates were found to have been copied from the Friends minutes, and at other times, written as found in other records, so as to the confusing of the correct dates in many cases. I have William 11 was b. ca. 16 Sep, 1691/92, Birmingham Twshp, Chester Co., PA and m. 9 Sep, 1716 Westtown, Chester Co., PA. and d.ca. Mar, 1745/46, Frederick Co., VA Elizabeth had to have d. after 1751, as after William 11 died, and in 1751, she and 2 of her sons(William and Thomas) went to NC settling near Cane Creek. I also have she was b.ca. 14 Aug, 1694, Northhampton, ENG, and she m.(1) Joseph Woodward and he d. in 1715 after they were married near 3 years. I have she and Wm had 8 children, and my husband's line then goes through Thomas VESTAL 1. I have seen a few sources, but do not have all the documentation on the births, deaths, etc. yet. The Shasta Co. Library Genealogical Section has a book entitled Pioneers of Yesteryears, written 1977, (this replaces the written manuscript of 1975 entitled THE VESTALS, which was supposedly destroyed by this 1977 writing) both compiled by Frances A. Gassaway, (she was the secretary of the Ft. Crook Historical Soc when she compiled the book, and had interviewed Tom Vestal, the veterinarian at the time there in that area.) Ask for Reference#979.424 in Shasta Co., CA library. That is about all I can contribute for now......Happy Trails, J in MT Also, visit my 4 personal home pages on spirituality and genealogy: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Crete/3718/ ----- Original Message ----- From: David G. 3. Scott: I have never seen a reliable death date for Elizabeth (Mercer) Vestal. Perhaps others have. Where did you get 1725 as her death date? As to David being her son, once again I rely on EAQG, Vol. 1, page 366 which has David Vestal's entire family listed. It shows him as son of "Wm. & Elizabeth" and gives his birth date as 6-16-1736. It lists his wife Sarah, as daughter of "Anthony and Sarah Chamness" and says she was "b. 2-11-1742, Frederick Co., VA." It also lists their 13 children with birth dates. I hope this clarifies things for you.
