This is Donna Ertler , I have never had a William Vestal or any other Vestal in Cold Norton , England , All of my Vestals were in Surry/Yadkin County , North Carolina , with the exception of the early ones in PA., I do know of a researcher who does have some Vestals in England his name is Lyle <[email protected]> you might check with him . I totally agree with you about "Hitting The Reply Button". I only takes a few seconds to type in a subject line that REALLY relates to what you are posting. In the end, we would all save ourselves quite a bit of time sorting through our e-mail in hopes of finding a response to a letter we have posted. Sometimes, it saves everyone time if there are two people talking back and forth - to do it privately instead of to the entire list - that is - unless you feel everyone needs to know what you are corresponding about.
I recently acquired a newspaper from Oct. 29 of 1940 for Winston-Salem, NC that lists "draft serial numbers for every Winston-Salem and Forsyth [county] man between the ages of 21 and 35". "EVERY MAN SHOULD KNOW HIS NUMBER. THE ORDER IN WHICH THE NUMBERS ARE DRAWN IN THE NATIONAL LOTTERY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT WILL DETERMINE THE ORDER IN WHICH MEN IN EACH AREA WILL BE CALED BEFORE THEIR LOCAL BOARDS FOR CLASSIFICATION AND EITHER DEFERMANT OF MILITARY SERVICE." There were only three Vestals listed out of 17,000 names Earl Wishon Vestal James Madison Vestal James Clarence Vestal
Linda, I, too, am a descendant of Jesse Vestal and Mary Ann Holt. This is the first time I have seen any postings to our line and boy was I surprised and excited. My line comes through George's brother William Henry Vestal and Sarah Kazar Hall. If you'd like to email me personally my email is [email protected] I also have Vestal info on my website at www.familyheritage.org Would love to exchange info with you. "RE: Lost Email:" We should all take time to state the appropriate subject matter and not just click on the reply button. Luckily I got a response back privately from the person that the message below was intended. If I had not, I would have gone through 18 emails with RE: Lost Email as the subject and none were related to my request. It would help all on the list if the subject matter was related to your reply, information or request. <<<If you wrote to me in the last two weeks asking for information please write again, AOL deleted my file cabinet with your letter. You asked if I had gotten response on 5 Brothers.>>>> I am only trying to help us all with this problem and I am sure there are more out there that feel the same about this. Thanks for listening. B. Vestal B.
Allen and Others, Allen, In response to your question about the 5 brothers, everyone responded that I must have been mistaken because there were only the two brothers and one died on the journey over from England. I am not sure why your family (about the 4 brothers) and mine (about the 5 brothers) are the only ones that have heard this story. When I was the only one asking about this, I thought maybe someone had passed down the wrong information or got it mixed up with another branch of my family. But when you said you had been told a similar story I thought there might be something to it. So, if anyone else out there has heard something similar please let us know. It could be that this set of brothers came over later. Would be glad to hear any response to this. My ggg-grandfather David William Vestal married Sarah Delphine McMasters in 1818 in Randolph County, NC, my gg-grandfather Lindsey David Vestal moved to Yadkin County, NC were most have remained or live in the adjacent counties. Even my father (Vestal) was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina but now lives in Forsyth County near me. Since my family has been in the area since the first Vestal's settled here, I had given the story some credit until I got negative responses to my question. Again, I would love for anyone to respond that may have some information about other brothers coming over. Allen, I am sorry I could not give you a direct answer to your question but maybe we can get a respond from this. Thanks in advance to all that may have some information to share or even want to share some family tales. B. Vestal B.

I'm looking for the parents of Priscilla Vestal b. 1818 who married Thomas King. Family moved to Campbell Co., GA and Tallapoosa Co., AL. Sound familiar? Rene
To the best of my knowledge, there is no Cold Norton County in England. Their shires are comparable to our counties. Essex would be a shire or county. Unless there is something I've missed in years of studying British history...in which case, would someone enlighten me. DJ

I have just recently gotten online. I happened to run across the Vestal heritage which is very interesting to me since my maiden name is Vestal. I did discover that Jessie Vestal is my great, great, great grandfather. We had only found as far back as George W Vestal. Since I now know that Jessie was married in Vigo County I can go to Terre Haute and do some research. It is only about 25 miles east of where I live. Jessie was also buried in Clark Co. Il which is 30 south of me. I hope to find his burial spot. I will compile all of the information I have on all of us Vestals from George on down and send it to you. Thanks so much for the info that has been put online, and I hope that I can fill in some of the missing pieces.
